No kidding...that's pretty much what kept me from doing it, everything you just said.
I guess in a way I did alright on the S2000...owned for a year, walked away without losing much more than some mods and insurance and taxes.

That's the problem. You're buying cars you want to drive, rather than cars at a good value that the public wants to buy. Study your market, test the waters. If you really want to make coin, it's probably not going to be in a car you want to own as an enthusiast. Definitely need to have patience.

Hi, my name is Justin. Instead of calling to confirm the appointment do you think you can call every week my appointment ISN'T to ensure I don't just show up!?!?

Thanks, you're a pal!

You're right. One of my friends buys like 10 freaking Jettas a year and makes profit on all of them after basic detailing and minor repairs. Bought a little Mazda 3 a few years ago with straight cash.

Me on the opposite I decided to have fun driving some cars. No money lost, but a bit more painful to do. Bimmer was pretty easy to get rid of though.

Different goals though...hard to get passionate on research and fixing up when it's a car that doesn't get your blood going. So...driving it IS your actual reward/profit!

I find working on a car fun enough, heck I work on/with computers for a living pretty much so it's all very similar, but as you said I can't see myself enjoying my time fixing a hole in a Jetta muffler or putting back the window in its tracks for the 8th time. Or diagnosing their electrical issues.

The S2000 was an absolute pleasure to work on. Honda simplicity of yesteryear and parts weren't that pricey since there's so much support. If you give it another go, highly recommend finding one that needs some love. It'll sell for what you want for it...without too much effort because kids to older dudes will want to buy it.

Yeah I gotta say some of the easier cars I've worked on were Hondas. I can see why people mod these little Civics for fun. If they ain't rusty, they're a charm to work on. Parts are dirt cheap, readily available and there's just a ridiculous amount of aftermarket parts.
Only gripe is about the transmissions, seems after all those years they haven't figured out how to make rock solid ones. Civics and Accords have a multitude of issues with them.

Maybe, but that doesn't excuse Honda for their shoddy transmissions.

I knew something was fishy while reading Frosty's story though. Looks like too much of a nice kid. As in upper class kid that gets the silver spoon treatment. I mean sure, cool for him, but I usually didn't have good experiences with people from richer families. They don't value money as much, and when they do, it's so they don't end up being the ones losing it.

I found it weird that he didn't address why he went auto now...
and why the fk are you letting go of your car that easily...

I concur, unfortunately.

Wonder if he modded his own car, really. He certainly let people assume he did and bask in the glory.

its gotta be his parents money.
did you see the barn and the truck and the new accord?

ive never really interacted with him, but that paul situation must have left him very sour in order to do that to some one else.

Yes, and didn't mention the transmission issues to the potential buyer who then posted in his thread in the forums. That shit cray.

Seriously, whenever you guys talk about salad-tossing, I literally picture you guys...and most of you have posted images of yourself (sans Maj who I think is an XXXL version of a anyhow and so, no pic needed) having a large salad bowl and hucking the vegetables back and forth to each other with a dopey smile on your faces.

If the kid has Daddy's money on a silver platter, he should have taken the car somewhere that would warranty the swap. Why take it to a stranger's house and leave it?!?!

Paul didn't even try to act like he gave a damn about the kids car judging from how muddy it was when the kid went to pick it up.

Agree, but it's not like most places would do a swap like that. Probably why he went to Paul. Also agree to Paul not giving a shit with the muddy car. What is it to go to the car wash and at least get the thing rinsed for like 10$?

Still doesn't make it right to try and sell a car with a breaking down tranny like it's "CLEAN".
