No doubt, man...that would help a lot. If it was more of a HANGOUT with everyone present being knowledgeable and NOT lazy...I'd be into it. For the most part though, I'd rather just work alone. Otherwise, I usually just move them out of the way and do the work for them instead of waiting until they mess something up I'll have to try and fix.
Fair enough, I was thinking freezing temperatures being in the 50's. Not -30

Multiple reasons: but, it had to do with my Mom finding a teaching position at one of the colleges in town. Then, compound that with meeting my wife here...well, that kinda settled it.
The winters are brutal, I agree, the city is like Cleveland at best...but, it could be worse and I could be in Compton.

You'll be one of those people like one we have at our Thanksgiving every year...family friend and she's always "SO grateful for living in paradise now and the warmth and sun and the awesome". I think she used to live in Maine or something.
I'm typically the token grouch in those reunions-get-togethers.
Maybe I'll try again next year or something. But, with Little Cha...seems unlikely.
So, I'll blame my parents and now, my son.
No way..
Compton is a tough one to judge.. South Central / Watts, you know right away that you came to the wrong neighborhood. Pops would drive me through South Central late at night then through downtown / skid row. He'd cruise through blocks that police barricaded, one way in one way out, no power.. He'd stop, turn the lights off.. and fiends would walk up to the car like the living dead.. it was a fucking experience for a young boy. Heart pumping out of your chest, and then he'd take off.
Pops would reach for his gun under the seat whenever some shit was about to go down. Last time was some asshole honking at him in a jack in the crack drive thru on echo park. Dude saw him lean down to reach under the seat and he shut the fuck up. He didn't have his pistola that time but it was pretty hilarious seeing that dumb cholo try to act hard with his girl and then see his balls tuck into his stomach after.
Ah.. LA. I fucking hate it, but you feel alive.

Although, the closest one I can recall was one late evening when I was young, my Pops took a wrong turn and we ended up in a narrow street lined up with crusty cars on either side. Interestingly, a very nice Mercedes was also in front of us but had out-of-town plates...and in front of the Mercedes, a very old van with no windows.
The van decided to stop for no reason and just sat there for a good 3-4 minutes...so, the Merc got impatient and honked LONG. Nothing. Did it again. And this time, the driver was gesturing something with his arm outside the window.
Out climbs 6 men...2 with baseball bats and no idea what others were holding. My dad mutters a Mandarin-swear and does a reverse out of that street in our little Datsun faster than you can say Pho-King.

and yep, pops was a CHP before I was born and when I was born, he got a job working for the State Department.
so, for as long as I can remember, we've always had firearms in the house.

Ah. My old man was in the Taiwanese military (you had to serve a mandatory year or two) and so, he knew his firearms. But, never once talked or brought up anything firearms related.
I guess went part and parcel with his chemical engineering prof facade. But, man...did he ever beat the living daylights out of me if I pissed him off.

My Dad was the .50 airplane machine gunner in the mandatory elite Swiss Army in the late 60's...and then became a hippie and constantly lectures me on how much he hates me having a gun. Damn Hippocrates.
Where's the peace and harmony there?
