Heat wave indeed. For it being as cold as it was for that long, the 43 degrees today is shorts and flip flops weather
Congrats on the weight loss, Justn. Jump roping is a solid workout. Do you use a regular rope or one of the weighted ones?

well, I originally bought a 3-6 dollar speed jump rope...
that shit broke, because I wasnt good at skipping rope.
i kept stepping on it, and the handle broke.
I bought a more expensive speed rope with better joints/handles this time around. and have improved skipping rope. i can get going pretty fast, and alternate legs, high knees, running in place.
I'm trying to figure out how to skip in the shape of a box. backwards, to the left, forward, then to the right

well the reason I ask is, I used to do HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and Active Rest training...loved it...they kicked butt since it helped me build some mass and drop some weight...
my dumb ass stopped working out when I was in the best shape of my life...

however, during the whole month of january, I did not go once.
and I started insanity, skipping rope, and pushups.
skipping rope is hard, and there is no way some one who picks it up for the first time can go 10 mins straight.
your feet have to learn to be coordinated with your arms.
the main factor in my journey is food.
less calories in while expending more calories out, creating a deficit in calories.

I got back in the workout regime (again) a week back and first thing I did was watch what I eat and cut out the junk food...
well thanks for the advice, I might look into jump rope (I used to do it as a kid), I hope it wont be that hard to pick up the lost habit again

lol, the speed rope I bought is made out of PVC.
your feet will learn to be coordinated really quick, or you'll get slapped OVER AND OVER again with the whip in your hands.
I swear, the first week, I looked like i was being abused all over my back and arms.
had giant welts every where

More than anything, you guys must stick to it. Lots of workout methods...don't matter if you don't stick to it.

Need to get back after a week home nursing a bad cold. But, may not return until tomorrow...still feeling ragged today. And I'm sure the peeps at the gym won't enjoy a guy hacking and sneezing near them.

Justin, do you even lift brah? jokes
I've lost about 50lbs since I started hitting the gym, which was over a year ago. Hit a plateau and have been stuck at the same weight for a couple months now.

I wish my knees could take jumping rope.

at first, i was pounding my knees.
now that I got the hang of it, i barely jump over the rope.
I like the phrase skipping rope better than jumping.

if you get an e-laced email, its only coz it hurts soo much...
I was 160 and shit shinny...started hitting the gym got upto 180 and then I took a break for couple months and boom 185....then I started the lean routine and was down to 172....back upto 185 and now am at 183 trying to get to 170-ish...
when you workout mix it up...use barbell instead of dumbbells/vice versa...instead of standing, try sitting or squatting...switch from high reps low weight to med reps med weight to heavy weight very low reps to max outs...
try super sets and giant sets, always keep mixing your routine....also vary the intensity as Justn mentioned....go from rest periods to active rests to high intensity...
I still remember, when I first hit the gym, I used to use 30lb dumbbells for flat bench press...just by FORCING myself to upping the weight everytime I do the exercise I remember I maxed out at 100lb dumbbells flat bench press x 3 reps...now am back to 60-70lbs x 6-8 reps...
by varying, you will not only build strength but also gain mass and cut up very well

Plus, I asked for it...I was really curious about his opinion since his description sounded like me.

Harper, I dont think a novice is below amateur...
An amateur is someone who enjoys an occupation or hobby without being paid
A novice is new to the work or occupation and can expect to be paid.
