Not neccasarily true. I have passed many state troopers. Just stay the speed limit and if they are going slower than that I pass them.
Actually this happens most in your home state in Kansas. The troopers there love going about 3 under the speed limit. I have passed several on the turnpike.

On that note, I'm home from my 14 hour drive from Abilene, Kansas from picking up my car. I will never ever ever ever ever drive on 70 again unless I absolutely have to.
This clutch is tough to have smooth shifts. It has a very low engagement point so it throws me off when I try to smooth out shifting. What RPMs do you guys typically shift at just casually driving?

when first starting off, 2k.
as you learn the engagement point, you'll want to get it down to 1.5-1.8k.
Sometimes, I still cant feel the engagement point and hit 2k on accident
this is for 1st gear.
I shift gears when ever i feel like it. ranging from 2.5k - 3.5k.

Maj/Jeff....we need a big car to start off with....depending how things go, either my parents or her parents might be here for elongated periods....I would like my parents to move in with us in the near future....I owe them that....
so a 5 passenger SUV is out of the question....you cant fit 2 peeps with a child seat in the back....so now we come to a 7 passenger SUV or a minivan....
we recently tried to get in the 3rd row seat of a 7 passenger SUV and was it a BIG PAIN in the BUTTT !!! so for parents to get in the 3rd row and then us to put the kid in and buckle him down, will take us a good 20 minutes LOL....in an minivan, it is much much simpler to access the 3rd row seating....
hence we were deciding of getting a minivan....options were between Honda Oddy or Toyota Sienna....but both being over 42K (the way we like it), I looked into the Dodge Grand Caravan....the way we like it, with all the bells and whistles, 30K and they have a 0% APR going on....
but I really like the Oddy and it has the same J series engine so modding it or working on it will feel right at home ....since none of our parents are coming this year, I might buy the 2014 model when they introduce the 2015 models (same time next year) coz they run a promotional apr and pricing to get the older models out....
well either way, lets see what happens...next year is toooo far out to plan anything for

And shift point casually driving? I would say around 7200 rpm. It will start bouncing when its time to shift.

Clearly you didn't do your research. The Dodge Caravan is the biggest piece of shit vehicle on the road.
Take a few minutes and look at caravan's that are 5 years old and look at the condition. The only thing that looses value faster than a dodge caravan is a Kia Sedona.
Stick with Honda or god help me Toyota.
The resale value later, reliability, dependability are all top notch.
There is a reason why a loaded caravan is 13k cheaper than a Honda.
I know I have a 03 Honda Odyssey sitting in front of my house right now with 225,000 miles on it.
I replaced it with an 06 surburban. Should have done that 5 years ago.
If you don't want to get new get a used CPO one. As long as its newer than 05 and an ex-l it has VCM (variable cylinder management) but those had problems until 08-09 until they smoothed it out.
I say to not get a mini-van but not because they aren't nice. They do offer some neat features and have a more car like feel to them on the road.
But if you plan on have 5-6 people in it all the time don't expect to have much cargo space.
Anyway I will get off my soapbox, but Anil it sounds like you need to do some more research before you jump into a purchase.

Jeff, am just saying the Caravan is an option....I like how Dodge has changed things around....either way am not looking to buy until next year and hence havent really started looking....we have been just talking to some owners and so far the only people who have called the Grand Caravan a POS are the peeps who havent owned it...from the few people I have spoken to (2 in our neighborhood and my brother in law) they have said the grand caravan has given them ZERO issues....but anyway, I need to jump on a Dodge forum and see what people are having issues with....
about Honda, there is absolutely no reason to not like it....the reason I would like a new van or a year/2 years old van is because of all the features...I like the touch screen on them, I like the display, love the new features and gotta have the NAV and rear entertainment since we plan on keeping this for a WHILE....
but I do agree that I need to do more research....i might seriously looking starting next year

I do agree the newer ones have better features.
I still stand by what I say about the Caravan. I have never owned one and honestly I hate Dodge.
But I did do my research on them as they were also in contention for purchase when I was looking at van's.
I did buy a Kia Sedona at first because of a good deal. I ended up trading into a Honda because they gave me a really good trade in to get me out of that piece of shit van.
Hence I will never recommend Kia/Hyundai to anyone ever.
That thing depreciated faster than I could make monthly payments. I took a huge hit when I traded it. But if I wouldn't have done it when I did I would have lost everything on it.
Not to mention I replaced the alternator, sliding door motor, battery, plugs, and a couple other things I can't remember. This was all BEFORE 50k miles.
So I looked at the caravans. They had nice features as well. Then I started looking at known issues, and was amazed.
Now I agree things might be a tad different with the newer models as this was 5-6 years ago. But I have been following dodge and I know a lot of dodge owners at work. I know this because they are always asking me to follow them to the dealership to drop their vehicles off or pick them back up.
I still am going to stick to my guns. If you are dead set on a minivan then I would stay in the Honda/Toyota lineup. pay the extra money and enjoy life.
Not that these 2 can't have problems, but quality per $ will exceed everything.
And modding a van. Unless you are gonna bag it why would you mod a van.
Just put gas in it, change the oil, do required services and drive it. You will get bored of it before it dies on you.

hell yeah boi !!! BAG and TURBO is on the menu
I agree on the "off brands"....i remember saying I will never buy a ford but now they have done biggg changes....buttt with that said, even on the newer Ford's the dash/leather does seem cheap....
either way, as I said, I do have to do more research and test drive the newer GC....
and I dont care much of the depreciation value....we tend to own our cars for very long and thats why I was looking at a lightly used 2-3 year old, Oddy....but cant find one with low miles and cost....for another 3-4 you can get a brand new van

My boss' wife got a Dodge Journey for this reason. All the bells and whistles...
warped rotors at 35k miles, many times to the dealership for weird noises and vibrations. POS, IMO.
I will say that after driving Betty's SRX around and having somewhat taken it apart and put back together, Caddy might be one of the ONLY American brands I'd consider.

Ford is still the only automotive manufacturer to not accept money from the government.
And that stands for something. However I would not recommend their minivan.
Stick to mustangs and F series trucks.
Only old, black or hispanic people like Cadillac's.

Just glad I said it first.
I don't care though as long as you see the light. I am not being a dick to be a dick.
I just don't want to see you make a bad purchase. Especially when its $30+K we are talking about.

Is it under 30K? if so, SOLD
Needs a 930
After reading his reasoning the QX56 was the first thing to pop in my mind. 2nd row captain chairs ooooweeee! Not sure if they still call them this but they were known as "a luxury suite on wheels" when they were first introduced. By far my favorite SUV, besides a G wagon.
I've got another year before we gotta get an SUV for the wifey. Tried talking her into a tsx wagon but she refuses to drive a wagon she likes the qx56 but I can't afford that yet so she still wants the mdx. Which is fine.
Out of the choices I like the odyssey the best. Plus the 2014's do look pretty sweet for a minivan.
