Be ready for the zombie apocalypse.

Null and proud of it
Not really. They either use a fogger truck that drives through the neighborhood during the witching hours disbursing it up and everywhere, or it's dispensed via airplane and carries wherever depending on prevailing winds.
Nearest I can tell, it's not the dispensing that kills the bees, rather the next morning when they go out to collect pollen and nectar. Since they can travel something like 5 miles in any direction, it's damn near impossible to prevent exposure.
My wife's theory is that she might be able to trap them in the hive for a day to let the pesticide wane in the local area. But the problem is that it's hit or miss knowing when they apply. There's no schedule and no report of when it happens. I made the association one night because I was up and heard the truck and then saw the bees dying the next morning. But this last time, nearest we can figured, it was an actual application like 75 miles away. So that's almost impossible to protect

I was up once when they came by and fogged the neighborhood...we're so close to the everglades I'm sure
it needs to be done or we'd be inundated. Even with the cooler weather now the mosquitos are frantically looking
for something to suck (MM). Always odd when you don't notice them and swat and there's blood and you're like
I sure hope that's only mine. I actually swatted and killed 2 at once the other night. Felt pretty rad.
Also I thought maybe the fogger was dispensing the 'Rona but that's because my parents don't trust the government.
I didn't realize how much goes into beekeeping...that's pretty cool that your wife is that passionate about something
like that...I think that's a great personality trait.

There's a guy at work that has a bunch of beehives and, like a lot of amateur beekeepers, he's a bit of an odd sort (in a good way). Mainly, I think he likes bees, but since they make so much honey, he started a little side hustle selling it from his desk at work. Usually, I'd hit him up a couple times a year for some bee juice (wife likes local honey because of allergies, etc... But that's an entirely different discussion) but with the 'rona and not actually going into the office anymore, we ran out.
Now, I doubt that was the real reason, but the reason she used, was that she didn't want to be dependent on Bee Guy when she wanted honey. So badabing badaboom, we've got a beehive.
It's crazy how involved some people get though. Like opening it every week and checking how they're doing. I guess there's some sort of mites that can get in so they'll do pest treatments... Some people feed the bees sugar water when there isn't enough resources... Tracking the queen and "replacing" her ( ) if the colony gets too aggressive, etc etc etc.
I'm like, fuckit... These are wild animals that live in a box... If they can't survive on their own then something is very wrong with them and it wasn't meant to be.
She's also an animal person in general, and this is like thousands and thousands of little pets.

hey if it keeps her from getting another pet rat, that's a win...
yes, we had one...
j is all about the local honey and allergies too...last time we stopped at a table on the side of the road
claiming local honey and when we actually asked they were from Naples across the state.

Still early but...Hope you gents have a safe and nice Thanksgiving and African-American Friday.
This is when I miss home a bit -- the meals are always great with my cousins, aunts, and etc. Sigh.
