My car does far better than EPA's numbers. Around town I tend to get 22-24 depending on how many times I stomp it. Highway, I tend to get a pretty steady 33 unless there's a strong head or tailwind. Overall, it gets about the same mileage as my MR2, which has a much smaller engine in a much lighter car, so I've been quite pleased with the fuel efficiency.

As posted in another thread. I have checked and compared my MID with actual fill up calculations many times. I made a 143 mile trip to and from the beach here in Oregon recently. This is a hilly area, only about 30 miles of flat highway on this trip. I averaged 27 to 28 MPG for the entire trip, fill up to fill up.

On the way to the beach I set the cruise control to 57 mph. There was little traffic and this was on a highway that has passing lanes. I did not have to brake for slower traffic nor did I accelerate to pass. My MID showed 30 MPG when I arrived in the city of Seaside.

On the way back I set the CC to 57 again and passed 3 to 4 times and also had to brake a number of times and my average mpg was dropping through the hills to 23 mpg and only came back up on the last flat section back to the gas pump.

My average speed was 51 mph on the way down. It was 46 on the way back.

This is an 07 Type-S with 79k on the clock and no mods. Tire pressure is checked monthly and before long trips.

I still have my window sticker.

'04 M/T was 20/30

What I fail to understand is why we don't have an instantaneous MPG indicator in addition to the Average for the tank so you can adjust your driving habits for maximum mileage.

Interesting. I'm sure the differences are due to the change in how the FE is rated.

The Navi hack will give you a realtime mileage calculator, if you have Navi to hack, that is.
