I amazes me how i get the same mpg in the city with my heavy hand (hand driving controls guys) and i get better mpg on the hi-way than my 08 accord coupe 4cyl. I have no mods yet and i got 35mpg going avg 61mph for 30miles. Its great living on the beach on the east coast. Roads are flat as a pancake.
Our TL's are awesome in mpg when you compare with the performance we get out of our cars. I just filled up and my computer says 21mpg and this is mostly city and some hwy. I did write down the mileage when I had last filled up and wrote the current one subtracted the 2 numbers and divided that by the amount filled which was 13.7 and I had came out with 22mpg pretty close I would say but still good for city usage. I also have seen 31mpg when I had my cruise set at 76mph
Wow- 42 is amazing for a TL-S! Especially at the number of miles you went. It's easy to do 40+ if you're coasting for a few miles down a hill but for 469 miles is a completely different story. I wonder how many TSX's can match that performance with their I-4?
Nah the 07-08's don't have it. I don't think even the new TL's have it. Now the 08+ Accord has it on their 3.5 V6 model

Again, intake modifications have 0 effect on mpg. It's 100% impossible. Replacing 103,000 mile plugs would have more of an effect but 3mpg is pushing the limits. You may want to get a few more tanks of fuel run through there before claiming a bump in mpg.
^ i doubt any acura will ever have that. as it will cut down on power, and the high end honda product (acura) would like to produce as many horses as possible to compete with other brands such as infiniti and lexus
Yeah on my last trip to Florida I averaged up to 36mpg which was better than I was getting in my 4cyl Accord. In fact over the last 4000+ miles I have averaged right at 30mpg. I have been very pleased and impressed, I love my TL!
@LaCostaRacer - thanks
@VQPower37 - no, it wasn't a downhill trip. This happened Memorial Day Weekend 2010.. I drove up from VA to NJ and drove around NJ and then drove back down to VA. 85 - 90% was Highway too.

That's impressive no doubt but you can't think that a stock weight TL is going to get 50% better mileage than every other TL out there for no reason. I've run mine at 55mph for 4 hours on end with no stops and being as light as humanly possible on the throttle and if anything the trip had a slight downhill bias and I still could not get above 37mpg. I was 15' off a semi's bumper for 70% of the trip.
The 4 in 42 is the same as the 4 in 461. When you dim the levels of the picture in Photoshop, the "4" in 42 is brighter than the "2" and brighter than 69 in the middle row.
My bet is, the "4" covers up a "3" that was originally there.
I think it's a little Photoshop joke.

And here it is with contrast turned up a bit to accent the difference:

Within the city, on the highway, I'm getting 21 mpg in my Type S (running the air conditioning). But driving for 6 hours at 69 mph and going 461 miles total, getting 42 mpg is great!

There's a fuel economy thread here that I just posted into yesterday: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/fuel-economy-787690/
My '04 is stock. Getting into the high 30s is not uncommon for me when I set cruise to 60 or 65 on my business trips. MID photos here as proof for any naysayers and I have verified many times that my MID is accurate because it always matches my hand calculations (divide # of gallons at fill-up by miles driven from previous fill-up) pretty closely. These were taken on flat terrain (Chicago to Indianapolis). I usually drive around 75mph and get around 31mpg across the tank.

Just thought I'd throw it out there as another data point.

What's the best way to improve mileage? I've got an '04 with 92k and need to replace the spark plugs. Besides that, is there anything else? I have never averaged more than 23mpg, even when driving on the freeway at 60-70mph for hours
This thread makes me soo happy haha. I had an '03 F150 reg cab, lowered on 22's, 5.4L V8...yeah...it got 12mpg and around 15 on the highway.
So you can imagine how excited I was driving back from getting my car in Texas while getting 36mpg on the highway. Mine seems to average around 32ish on the highway and 22ish in the city. I should mention that's with AC BLASTING! because its hot as hell here in Oklahoma!!

I can vouch for yours being typical at that speed/conditions, but for about 80 miles. Took an almost identical trip 2 back to back days last week and averaged 27mpg start to finish. With very brief highway shenanigans.
A late night/early morning trip to Vegas following a friend's Z06 yielded 26-27mpg with cruise set at 110mph for most of the way. I was pretty happy except his Vette got about the same mileage.
No doubt this man put seafoam in his engine, fuel tank, sunroof, tires, and probably his pants. Congrats!
I average about 30-31 mpg on trips to Houston from Dallas. Before 111,000 miles or so, I used to get 32-33 mpg on the same trips. I'm pretty happy with the highway mileage I get.

I think maybe just a tad better than some autos? It really depends on how you drive, overall speed, wind, octane, etc....

This was me driving as smoothly as I possibly could on the Interstate and about a mile into the neighborhoods before I snapped the photo. My best long drive MPG was about 33 doing 70mph between KC and STL running on 93 octane. Usually my drive to STL is on 91 octane and I get about 30-31, and coming home on 93 octane usually gets me about 31-32. Speed really is the biggest factor on highway mileage.
