Well when your light comes on you should have approx 2.3-3 gallons left till you hit your reserve tank which is approx 3.2 gallons.

Im sure with 80% HWY you should have averaged 27MPG and that should have given you approx 380ish.

I have gotten 400+ 100% HWY in my car from full to 0 Range on my MID.

Also are you on stock rims and tires? that makes a big difference

IMHO, no, not at all, but only by my metrics.

Driving style, transmission, tires, commute type all play too important a factor to make this a fair comparison.

That's quite paltry. Yesterday I drove 300 miles (granted, all highway) to Michigan and still have a little over a quarter of a tank left. So I figure each quarter of a tank gets 100 highway miles. What's your driving style like?

That's below-average to average mileage. On trips to Houston from Dallas (about 290 miles one way), I used to get 32-33 mpg regularly when my car was younger. Nowadays I get about 30 mpg.

If that's all you get then you need to get something checked out.

I usually get around 300 miles or so on a tank of gas with around 75% backroads/city.

I drove to Myrtle Beach and back last weekend and drove about 30 of my miles around town and still averaged 30.4 mpg. When I drove from NYC to NC back in August, I got 33 mpg. I've been very pleased with my mpg. ('07 TL)

If I drive speed limit I can get at least 400-450 miles on a tank of gas. Once I hit at least 75+ that is where it decreases, but even at 75-80 I still get ~400 miles per tank (minus the reserve).

I'm usually able to get low to mid 300s with most highway and some city driving. In two recent road trips I got about 415 per tankful.

Yup...that's about what I get with my 6MT TL-S....mostly city driving. Highway only raises that by about 40%...I'm quite amazed the difference between city/hwy on this car.

If you figure you have 3.5 gallons left when the light comes on, you traveled 317 miles on 13.5 gal, or 23.5 mpg. Not very good for all highway.

I just went on a trip with about 85% highway and the rest city and got 31 mpg. I would say 300 miles is low...

I usually get about 260-270 miles by the time I fill it up (when it goes just below 1/4 tank) and the computer almost always says 21-22 MPG with 50/50 mix of hwy and city. I usually drive pretty conservatively but foot it once or twice a day. When I first got the car I could not get better than 17 MPG...coming from a manual BMW it felt like I always had to be deep into the gas to feel the acceleration.

If your not getting this then there is a problem!

If you getting a whole lot less than it would mostly be that you have lots of weight in your car or you have shitty tires on ...for example when I had Nankang NSII on my 19's my MPG dropped from the 23city 30hwy to 14city 21hwy and im not even gonna get into the road noise Yeah you might save money on cheap tires but you will pay for it in gas mileage

Damn, I usually get only like 230 miles city only. Ever since I got the car I never took any far trips or a lot of highway driving so I can't really say how much I get on the highways. But when I do drive highway I get like 30-33 MPG.

It really has to do with driving style, I think. This is my second 3G TL and I still have never broken 300 miles on a tank.

Well very true but this is based more on Highway driving and unless your doing the Cannonball run or Gumball 3000 you should be getting 27+MPGs Hwy

My mileage is virtually all secondary road driving. Come to think of it, I've never taken my car on a highway trip that would consume an entire tank.

^You oughta take a road trip in your TL sometime. An amazing highway machine that really doesn't burn too much fuel. I do about 1000 long highway miles a month and look forward to each trip. $40 in gas provides hours and miles of fun.

Pretty much the same.

We went to Atlanta yesterday (~300 miles each way, all highway) and I was getting about (estimated) 420 miles to the tank (range = 0). However, the city driving in ATL killed that and by the time we got home the MID mileage was around 25 or 26 MPG, or ~350 miles to the tank.

And thats for the 5AT 3.5L. So not too shabby on the highway @~75 mph.

I broke 500 miles per tank on the drive from Bakersfield to Phoenix. Most driving was 55mph, not a single stop, and I topped it off pretty good when I filled it up. Gas light had been on for 20 miles.

I did a little experiment yesterday when pulling out of work. We all know that you can get twice the mileage on the freeway. When I pulled out of work late onto the highway there were no cars around so I accelerated very slowly. The engine was cold so I barely gave it any throttle and if I were in the city people would've been honking at me for accelerating so slow. I kept the throttle in the same position and eventually it hit 70mph. Not only are you doing stop and go in the city that kills mileage but I figure 50% more throttle too.

^^I agree. I have experienced much better mpg when I am very light on the throttle. Revs never going above 2000 rpm. Just make sure noone is behind you, they may get pissed.

55mph in Atlanta will get you killed... It's not hwy 285, it's "DO 85".

Ain't that the truth. America's Autobahn. Drivers on that road sometimes scare the hell out of me.

You've seen this before - doing 55 on I-285?

^^^ Heh, cool stuff. Always wanted to do that.

Anyhow, doing mostly city, I get about 23mpg, but even when I do 100% highway I only get about 26. I dunno how you guys get any more than that. Is something wrong with my car? I have brand new top of the line michelin's

Check your tire pressure. I think a lot of us run 3 - 5 pounds over the recommended stock tire pressures.

Also, smooth on the gas when passing, etc. Set the cruise at ~70 or so and leave it be. You should be able to get 30+ mpg on the open highway.

My thread a month ago when I took a 5 hour trip.https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-photograph-gallery-96/nice-road-trip-my-hybrid-i-mean-tl-791453/

Quater tank used, 34 MPG 135 miles traveled in 2 hours

Half tank, 33 MPG 271 miles traveled in 4 hrs 22 mins

12 miles short of my aunts place, I filled up. A bit past half tank 303 miles traveled in roughly 5 hours.

I figured if I kept going, I would have hit about 480-500 miles on that entire tank

All done by this beast :p

Wow you guys are getting GREAT mpg. I think my tires are shit (pirelli p-zero nero) and after putting my a-specs on the wheels always seem to want to move on it's own on uneven pavement? I think maybe I need an alignment?

I do about 90-95% local city driving in NY. I NEVER get over 20mpg with city driving. Right now I'm averaging 16mpg on my current tank. Sometimes when I don't do any highway at all, my tank only gets up about low 200s WTF!!! I think something may be wrong with my car. Although I've seen my mpg go to 30+ while on the hway, but going local after that just kills it.

And I have a question about the tank, I usually fill my tank up about 2-3 miles after my gas light comes on. But when I fill up it's usually only about 12 gallons, does that mean my reserve gas is about 5 gallons?? It's so weird to me, aren't our tanks like 17 gallons?

I'm planning on getting new tires next year.. hopefully that will help. And what is the "range" indicator for?
