Here is a video of a stock GTO (3000GT VR-4 in US) in the MR trim driven by Naoki Hattori vs the R33 GTR driven by Gan San:

Both cleared the 1/4 mile in high 12's as you can see. Check out how hard they launched..lol.

Either the Japanese version has more power or that's short of a 1/4 mile. The ones I've seen are low 14s all the way to 13.80s.

Just like many other Japanese sports cars, the GTO twin-turbo was rated at 280ps. But in reality it's way over 300hp (rated at 321hp in the States I believe). I won't be surprised if the Japanese version is more powerful, just like the NSX, Lancer Evo, STi, etc.

And you are right, it's actually a 0-400m test, that's 1312.34ft, so it's about 7ft short of the full 1/4 mile. When you are going at about 100mph, it takes about 0.05 second to cover that few ft.

LOL. I guess it's not the distance. I'm just trying to make sense of it because it goes against what I've seen at the track. If they could pull off a 1.6 60' and trap 103+mph it may be possible. It's nice to see one in action. All the 3000GTs around here are ragged out POS.

hmm... funny. I own a VR-4 and ran 13.5 @ 102mph my very first trip to the track bone stock. If you owned a VR-4 you would know they pull strong all the way up to 150mph.

VR-4 lightly modded VR-4 would destroy even a S/C 3G TL.

To the OP, I used to have a 5MT 3000GT SL and raced a few Type S TL's. The Type S kept up pretty good but I really had to drive the shit out of my car.

The base and SL models before 97 had 222hp and with the 5MT could run high 14s to low 15s trapping between 94-97 mph. The Autos were Mid 15s to low 16s. After 97 the Base 3000GT only produced 161hp and the SL at 218hp. The base is a dog, even a Honda Civic would kill it. THe 94+ VR-4s made 320hp instead of 300 due to increased boost pressure.

What kind of mods did it take to get the times in your sig? I'm guessing not that much.

I've always wondered how far the stock turbos will take you before needing an upgrade.

Well the stock 9b turbos can get you into the mid to high 12's without spray but you would need larger injectors, fuel pump, UD pulley exhaust and boost controller. I've ran a 12.8 @ 108 on stock turbos at 14psi but I had a 1.8 60ft. The stock ones are fully spooled by 2800 rpms but taper off and can only hold 11psi of boost.

I've upgraded the turbos to 15g but I have not got my race gas tune. With that tune I can be into low 12s trapping 118-120mph.

Also I believe the MR version is a bit lighter, which might help a bit.

Correct, MR's also have shorter gearing.
