3000 Gt
Dear Penthouse I never thought it would happen to me ...
Right, that was another forum.
Anyway, I saw a Mitsubishi (sp) 3000 GT driving a little wild during rush hour yesterday, passing on the right cutting people off etc. So, I see the next move this guy is likely to take and open up the TL. Before he even realized it I had closed down the opening he was hoping to use to pass everybody.
As luck would have it we are both going to the same off ramp to another highway, a hairpin (30 mph) turn then 65mph freeway.
You can picture it now, this guy just crawling on my bumper with heavy traffic around. I slip it into SS and let the car in front of me get ahead 3-4 car lengths. Had my rpm's around 5500. The road now opens up and there is a break in the traffic. Of course, the guy in the 3000 opens it up, but way too late. I left him back 4-5 car lengths by the time I hit 80.
Traffic is thick again and he is now stuck behind some semi's. Of course 4-5 miles later he comes flying around people again on the right dodging and weaving. I let him pass and am dissapointed to see it was only the SL model ( 0 - 60 in about 8.5). The SR4 GT does 0-60 in under 6 secs so that might have been a close run.

If it was a VR4 you would have been dusted. I test drove those cars back in like '97 '98. AWD, AW Steering, 300+ horse. They stick to the road like bubble gum.

I owned a VR4 for 4 years (325HP, twin turbos). I've had the TL for 6 months. Both manuals. The VR4 would eat the TL alive. If you had raced one, by the time you found second gear all you would have seen would be tail lights, and after that you'd be lucky to see it at all. Believe someone who has driven both, its not even a race.

Glad you put him in his place though. I can't stand when someone drives like that, especially in a piece of crap 3000 GT
As for the driving habits of the 3000 mentioned, I'm also glad you put him in his place.

The 3000 never had to go back to the dealer for anything in 4 years. Performance wise, there is nothing to compare. Power, acceleration, braking, and handling all go to the 3000. I'd be careful which one I'd call the piece of crap.

You really can't compare a sports car like the 3000GT to a luxury sedan like the TL. But you're right, the 3000GT was the "pinnacle" of what Mitsubishi could do at that time and was a premiere sports car.....it's too bad Mitsubishi couldn't package all that good hardware into a lean, mean sports sedan.
