pardon my ignorance, but do those parts replace existing or do they act as an add-on?

Oh, and what effect would they provide?

I'd get them because they are the only other alternative to OEM, unless you want to spend $130 - $170 on an authentic set which offer a slight difference in color at the cutoff , but the difference in cutoff sharpness is nearly identical.

What does it take to swap out these lenses? I imagine the light need to be removed from the car. If you are just doing the lens swap do you need to open the headlights?

I have had two TL's. My first one a 07 base I bought the ZKW replicas and I wasnt all that impressed. They for sure added SOME color but not nearly as much as I thought they would. Also, I was expecting a super sharp cutoff but the cutoff did not change in sharpness from stock whatsoever.
I now have a 07 Type S and im contemplating spending more and getting the true ZKW clear lenses. Does anyone know whats involved with this required spacer? Whats the best way to make it fit correctly and what do you have to do?

Thanks,
James

You will need to make a 3mm spacer if memory serves me right... Paging JnC, the headlight guru....

JnC uses a metal pre-fabbed spacer as found in the Porsche 911 I believe, but I have used a DVD movie case and cut out my own spacer in the past and its the perfect thickness and provided an excellent/sharp cutoff.

Awesome thanks. I guess regardless of what I use I will test the output prior to putting everything back together and I can get the cutoff exactly how I want it.
Also, I know the real ZKW lenses have a notch on the outside lip. Does anyone know if it makes a difference on what position the notches are located at?

Spacers are usually 0.5~1mm thick for the real ZKWs and for the newer batch of ZKW-Rs you dont need spacers but need to tweak the cut off shield a bit to get a sharp cut off.

If I put two pictures here of output, both from ZKW-R and real ZKW and ask people to identify each then 9/10 people wont be able to tell the difference, especially if the wall shots are from <20 feet. At 50+ feet the difference in cut off sharpness between ZKW-R and authentic ZKWs is pretty evident though.

Thanks JNC then maybe thats what explains why I only noticed a little more color but no sharpness change when I went with the ZKW-R's. I did not modify the cutoff shield at all.
So if I go with the true ZKW lens then there really isnt a need to modify the shield as long as I make the correct spacer? I would really prefer to stay away from modifying the shields if possible, but I for sure want a little more color and sharpness. If you have the time would LOVE to see some comparison shots of real ZKW next to ZKW-R lenses.

Thanks,
James
