2K Mile Review - 04TL/WPD/5AT/NAV

Ok...I finally reached 2K miles and the results are in:

The car is great....specially the ROAR of the engine, mild manner but evil sounding when revving or speeding up. The engine seems to get more powerfull as the mileage accumulates. I had a BMW 540I tailing me off I280 and he was giving the the thumbs up. Then we sped up and the TL is hanging on without much effort.

FWD is not a problem since I do not race and I do not drift....Maybe if I was younger. I do like to keep my car looking like a sleeper. I see teenagers like to always race me (Civic/WRX/Nissan240/Evo)...and I sometimes give them opportunity, maybe when i get get the A-spec suspension, CAI air intake (or the K&N filter) and get a Cat back exhaust.

I did not need the Navi, but I have to admit that I am glad i did get it....saved me a couple of times. It did gave me a good deal when we were buying the car since I was not interested with navi ($31,900 + TXL). Marin Acura treated me well...higly recomended the salesman (David Wood) was very professional.

The interior is excellent no rattles, no squeaks (must be rare or just got lucky) and solid. My car seat does have the butt print like everyone else. I figured it is not a deal breaker..just an annoyance. I will bring this up when the car is brought in for the first oil change.

HFL is da bomb, I have Sony Ericsson T616 and it was a perfect match with bluetooth. I can live with the ELS sound system. I will have to wait until I break one of the speaker so I can upgrade all of them. Subscribed to XM for three years ($60/year promotion is still good yall). XM is the best except in the tunnels (Presidio/Bay Bridge/ Culdecut). Voice command still amaze me and really impresses a lot of my passenger.

WPD is a good color since it is really easy to maintain and clean. I have been using Turtle Wax tree/sap remover to clean marks and dirt. I also use mothers claybar to keep the cars exterior looking glass finish.

Premium gas is something that does surprised a bit (not much), I used to have a 90 Legend LS Coupe and it only takes regular.

I do miss my legend because of bigger viewpoint from the inside. The TL is has that restricted view from the inside and it will take me a while to get used to it.

The only negative I have to point out is that side moulding. Last week when it was raining, I stepped off the car and dirt from the moulding trasferred to khaki pants. This is a big issue for me since I wear khakis to work.

I test drove other cars before buying this one.

Subaru GL - cool but not luxurious
Audi S4 - maintenane is too much
Acura TSX - Great car but not for me
Acura RL - too big/expensive
Lexus IS300 - too small
Lexus ES330 - too conservative
Infinity G35 - not stylish - but great handling (RWD)
2001 BWM 740i - but the car love to shop (repairs)
2004 BMW 330ci - for the same price I only get the barebones and extras will cost another $9K

Acura NSX - the wife says divorce paper is on the way.
Porsche Carrera S4 - the wife say $100K is good for the kids braces but not for a car.

I give the TL 4 & 1/2 stars....

And that my friend is my review........

Ciao
Rick G.

Good post, reps for you! I'd only add that your wife is probably better to keep around than the NSX, so good choice. Plus, you're wife doesn't require the high octane fuel.

Have the same car same color. Had it since late Feb, have 9000 miles. Have cranked it up to 130, and been doing a lot of highway miles lately in the middle of nowhere setting cruise at 95, and frequently doing over a hundred. Like the car, have a very intermittant rattle from the rear speaker area sporatically. Car is smooth, trans shifts a bit harsher (longer?) sometimes at WOT than when new. I hammer it frequently, and a couple weeks ago got a brief flashing engine light under WOT at freeway speeds, need to have that checked. Happy with the car, but need another 75 horsepower. Car will be paid in Mar 06, would buy another if it has more power.

Congrads Neorick,

I have the exact same combo and am loving mine with almost 8K on the odo. I am having my leather replaced on the driver's seat next week. I weigh about 150 pounds and the leather is way stretched on the seat and surprisingly on the upper portion of the back rest where the head rest comes up from. Otherwise, the car has been super smooth and reliable.
