go take a look at the car in person and get a feel for it, if anything seems off then stay away, carfax is unreliable

Get it checked out?

Like above posters said, carfax can't tell you EVERY single thing.

I change my own oil.
I don't expect it to show up in carfax unless someone is doing some creeping

The original owner probably had a couple of free oil changes from the dealer for buying the car. After he used the freebies, he went elsewhere or did it himself? Changes not done at the dealer wouldn't show on carfax, I wouldn't think.

Also, if synthetic, even if it was only 2 changes, you'll be fine. Probably still fine if dino oil.

Isn't the oil changing interval every 10K miles? You should be fine.

I agree with the others, the owner probably did it him/herself or took it to another place like Jiffy Lube or a local station. Carfax does have some kind of warranty on their reports, so you always have that. I think they buy the car back from you if something is wrong in the report.

There is no set interval, it's whenever the MID tells you. It, in part, depends on style (high rpm/low rpm) and type of driving (city/highway). For me, it comes every 7500-8000 miles. Most people seem to get the MID message between 5K-8K.
