27 MPG Combined, over 2,000 real-world miles
05 MT-6. I thought this MPG was worth a "brag." I've altered my driving habits somewhat over the past few months to accomplish this, but I'm definitely not doing extreme "hypermiler" type stuff. I drive at the speed limit or higher (up to 75-80 on highway), up-shift early, and shut down at long red lights when outside temp is below 85 or so. I live in Ashburn, VA (DC suburb). Car is stock; 44,000 miles.

08 TL Type S A-Spec
OOOOOF. I must be doing something wrong. I can only get 20-21 on a mix of city/hwy driving in my 08 TL Type S auto. Around town, I get 16 or 17 MPG (city only).
Well, I hope my mileage improves, my TL-S only has 3300 miles on it.

How accurate/reliable is the computer? I've always calculated my own mileage when I fill up and have a high combined mpg of 25 mpg. I usually get between 23 to 24 mpg though. FYI I have an '05 MT6 too.

I have a mix that's about 70/30 Highway/City have got 24-26 average mpg per tank since day one on my 05 6MT. 24 with winter gas formulations in CT and 26 (sometimes 27) with summer gas. If I reset the mid on the highway with cruise on@55 it shows low 30's. I'm sure I could force the mpg well below 20mpg pretty easily if I wanted to "play" but I'm pretty light on my cars since I keep them a long time.
As for the shutting down at long red lights, I'll not be doing that. I'm not convinced that it's worth the effort, wear and tear on the starter and that I really want a car with no steering or brakes in an intersection (if it doesn't re-fire right away). In my area there isn't much traffic so I simply try and coast into red lights hoping theil turn green before I come to a full stop. 0 to 40 uses much more gas than 25 to 40. Less clutch too.

I also decided to try to drive a little differently, since the traffic sucks around here anyway, I try to just go a little above the speed limit, which here is usually 50

I just put on 800 over the holiday weekend and averaged 27mpg in my 04 5AT TL (17k miles and some change on the odo).
Most driving was highway, and the MPG peaked at 29 with an average speed of 71, but we did some driving around town after we got there, and then we hit traffic on the way home and that dropped my average speed to 48, and the MPG to 27.
I should take a picture, but my wife took the TL to work today, and her commute will fudge the numbers.
This was our first real "road trip" in the TL-Great car overall- It is a lot better on gas than my old 3.0 99 Accord EX coupe was.
I am taking the car from Chicago to Pennsylvania next month, so I will photo my stats and then post after our trip. That should be another 1000 miles over a long weekend, mostly highway with some city, and a little back road driving.

I started trying some of the safer hypermiling techniques at the end of my last fill up, so far for my daily driving I am averaging 34 MPG. The MPH average is 37 and I have 260 miles on the tank and it is still above half. On the highway part of my commute I go 60 MPH. I try to do predictive braking for lights and shift before the car gets to 2000 RPMs.
No tailgating or pushing the car off before I start it. I also try to avoid idling for to long.
Do not start the car until you are ready to go and shut it off as soon as you stop. The windows can be rolled up after the car is off.
Here is a good site for a variety of tricks to help increase MPG.
Increase your MPG
The way I look at it right now, at current prices I will save $600 a year. I am wanting to try and get the MPG up higher. I can see how this becomes an addiction for the guys that are true hypermilers.

I filled up the other day. All the driving I have done has been city driving. I've had the air on one time during this period. The MID shows 25 mpg. Pretty happy with that. I know the car gets better mpg in the summer due to changes in gas formulation, but this is the best I've gotten on my 04 automatic with just over 19,000 miles. I have changed my driving habits a little, driving a little more like a grandpa, but heck that is what I am. I have noticed that the MID is pretty close to manual calculations.

In all seriousness, though I'm sure plenty of folks do as well or better, it is much easier said than done to sustain the economy over the long haul. Note the low average speed ... I have plenty of dreaded DC-area rush hour stop & go traffic in this. And again, I am not a slow driver.
For those who have commented on the inadvisability of shutting down the engine at red lights, your points are well taken. I choose these occasions carefully and only shut down at known prolonged reds during my daily commute. I do this at lights which provide plenty of warning (eg. left turn arrows) prior to turning green. Granted, I am trusting the car to start when I turn the key!

I just re-filled my 07 TLS 5AT and I got 330 miles out of the tank (well, when the light turned on, I immediately filled her up) and I had put in 15.6 gallons...so I got about 21 mpg out of 5% highway and 95% city driving...I'm just waiting to take her on an all highway trip. I'm pretty sure I can get 30+ since I was averaging 32 mpg when I went to San Diego and back (~300 miles).
To the OP, those are some great numbers....just keep off the gas unless you want to be paying $5 a gallon every week.

Current picture of MID. I have checked in the past by manually checking my MPG and my MID is right on the money. Notice the Average MPH. This has been my daily driving on one tank of gas. Still have half a tank to go!!

^ WOW! 34MPG is pretty darn good. Must have some low rolling resistance tires there. The best I have ever gotten on a trip was 32MPG cruising @ 65 most of the way. Of course, I have aftermarket 19-inch rims that may also take a bit more energy to turn but 34MPG is very good. I average around 23MPG with mixed driving.

No worries about your MPG as your car is still new ... it will improve after 6k just like mine ...

08 TL Type S A-Spec
I wanted to give an update on my 08 TL-Type S mileage. My wife and I took a trip from Las Vegas to Sedona, Az and back (650 miles total).
In Nevada the Speed Limit was 65mph (posted).........I set the cruise for 70mph.
In Arizona the Speed Limit was 75mph (posted)..........I set the cruise for 80mph.
****A/C was on the entire time, too. It was 90 - 100 degrees most of the time outside***
Overall, my 08 TL-Type S (only 4,400 miles on it) recorded 28MPG over the 650 miles!!!!!
Honestly, I think that is really, really good.
(Window Sticker shows 18city/26hwy)
So, I am actually impressed now with my mileage. I am thinking after my 1st oil change and maybe another 4,000 miles........I might even see more improvement??
