245's or 235's?

So on my OEM 18's that are sitting on a decision of what tire to get. Should I get the 235/40/18's or the 245/40/18's.

Have we come up with the most practical decision?>??

245 will give you a smoother ride because you have more rubber. it will also last a little longer and protect your wheels from getting bent when going over potholes. plus, it will fill in any gappage that you might have.

I put 245/40/18 on my OEM's. 245s will protect the rims a little better because 235s don't even come out to the edge of the rim.

What about 245/45/17's on the standard wheels?

Why not go with 255 on the 18x8.5.

Hey Travis,

You think 255/40/18 works fine on OEM rims? If you got them pls post some pics. Thanks.

235s unless you really drive hard. The stock sized tires will be cheaper and lighter than 245s

OEM 18's? What are they 8 or 8.5" wide? If they're 8" wide, 255 probably isn't recommended. Speaking with discount tire, they said you can stuff a 255 in the wheel well though. I'm still looking at wheels myself...no pics.

I just bought Yokohama 255`s for my stock 17 wheel. Having them put on this weekend. My car is also lowered with Comptech springs. They already tried them on the front, no problem. If there is a problem, I`ve got a 30 day bring back warranty

I am still debating between 245/45-17 or 235/45-17 for my stock rims. I want the wider tire for grip and wheel protection, but that will also give me a taller sidewall. Will that detract from the tight feel of the car?

That would depend on the tire. Some sports tires have stiffer sidewalls so even if they're a bit taller, they're still stiffer than the OEM tires.

I am putting on the Goodyear F1's whether I go with 245 or 235. So, given the same brand tire, will the taller sidewall on the 245 overcome the performance gain of the wider 245? And by performace gain, I mean the feel of the car. A 0.2 sec slalom increase is not important, I am just looking for what will make the car feel tighter.
