2008 TL-S Tranny Flush

hey

i know there are a ton of these thread already
but i keep reading them and i still cant get a clean answer to which fluid to use.

i have a 08 TL Type S Automatic with 33K Miles. im going to do the 1st tranny flush. i was thinking of using Redline ATF Type F fluid, but i keep seeing people saying to use the D4 or Mixtures of both.

i plan on doing this next week, so can i get some advice on which to order.

thanks

There are some people that recommend the factory fluid, now DW-1, some recommend Type-F, some RedLine D4, some will introduce a combination of the above, so depending on which thread you choose to believe that's the answer.

If you want to go with a better but very "safe" fluid, use a DexIII fluid like Redline D4, Amsoil ATF, and whatever other names are out there for this fluid. I personally will only use Type F but since it's so different, people quickly blame it for anything that goes wrong with the car. D4 is still much better than factory fluid, nothing wrong with sticking to that.

I recently switched from DW-1 to Redline D4. Love the feel! Why use the same fluid that is recommended to grandma who would never take the car over 3k. Just a thought. Redline has a higher resistant to heat and will break down less than DW-1. Its also a recommended OEM replacement. I was thinking about TypeF but from what I gathered it can get notchy in cold weather.

Good luck on your choice.

One more thing, never flush a transmission. Drain and fill...terminology

Bill Nye of course. Recommended is not the right term in some English dictionaries.

Z1 was also the recommended fluid for years and everyone knows it's crap. D4 is better than DW-1 in nearly every way a fluid can be better. I personally like the Type F better than everything else but around here if the car has a tire blowout or a headlight burn out it's going to be blamed on the Type F.

I just did the 3x fluid change on my '08 TLS. I changed out the Z1 and went with the DW-1 fluid.

You guys are all dicks lol. There is no definitive answer here on the tranny fluid to use. Just use 10w30 motor oil. Make sure its synthetic

I did a 3x3 with DW-1. I only used it because my neighbor works for a Honda dealer and got me 12 quarts for 30 bucks.

Not too hard at all, If you can change your brake rotor then you can do it easily.

They are pressure switches, I would recommend you do 3x3, as of right now I am on 1x3 and will do soon on the next oil change.

How the hell do you get out 3 quarts from the trans.
Every time I do it the most I can get out is 1.5 if I am lucky

Dude, go back and thuroughly read one of the many thesis' that IHC has written on this topic. You may feel its all "opinion"but he has tested and retested different fluids an combinations of fluids.
