2008 MPG rating

These numbers are more accurate for 2008...at least for the city driving. On the highway I still get around 30mpg.

Not even close for me. I average 25 with my city and 32-33 on the highway. My city is not as bas as most with the stop and go, so I am able to get that up some.

25 in the city? Damn, you must not have any stop lights where you live.

I have a lot of stop lights by me in the Chicago burbs and I get 21-22mpg all the time with 100% city driving. That even includes winter driving when it is below zero. If I make a 50 mile highway trip, my mileage goes up to 25mpg for that tank of gas.

I have to assume that anyone averaging 18mpg or less is leaving black stripes on the pavement at every stoplight.

Timing!! I know the patterns for the lights. Also, I do not jump on it and take my time. I normally do not rev past 3.5k and once past 2nd, I normally shift at 3k. I do love to play in vtec, but with premium gas at $3 a gallon, I would rather get the gas mileage.

I try to take advantage of down hill coasts as well. Its all in the way you drive it. Now if I where in CA, Atlanta GA, or NY, it would be another story.

Maybe in Alabama where the terrain is flat. For me here in hilly SoCal I think it is quite impossible to get 25mpg city driving consistantly. When I'm trying to behave I get 18mpg at the best. And I wish gas was $3.00 a gallon.................

I just returned from a trip from Dayton, Ohio to Jacksonville, Fla. via I.R. 75. I averaged 30.4 mpg at an average speed of 64mph, which included construction, and one encounter with an M5 in Atlanta. This was not via the trip meter, this is my math calculated for the whole trip. By the way, the M5 lost..go ahead FLAME ME! He picked the wrong lane!
I still feel that the TL is THE best overall performance/luxury/economy machine in the world. It handles like a slot car, gives good economy, and shows high performance acceleration numbers. And did I say it has a comfy back seat?
Thar ain't no better for the dollar! SHOW IT TO ME!

I wish it was flat. Most of north east to central alabama is rolling hills. Look at it on a map. I used to tow a car on a trailer to car shows in this area and GA. It sucked!! But that stop and go you have to deal with in CA, you can have that. I would end up hurting some one. And yes, I am sorry for the price of gas out there, damn CA laws!!! GL

Are you calculating that over a full tank of gas?

Sure if I keep resetting the trip meter I get 32-33, but that doesn't count.

If you really average that number over a FULL TANK than I'm impressed. I'd like to know how you came up with those numbers. The only way I can get 29-30 is to go on a flat road trip. I always reset the trip computer at the gas station.

My average is more like 23-24 if I do half and half city and half hw driving. But if I reset the trip computer, drive 30 hw miles and then check it, WOW I get 32. Lets report that my average hw driving is 32, even though I didn't account for the start and stop associated with hw driving.

Mine is reset at each fill up, and double checked with a calulator. It is reset as soon as I fill up. The high flow cats made the biggest difference on the car. It sucks for those in CA that are not able to use them. As they really improve gas mileage.

When I first got my car, was was averageing 24 mpg city/highway. I've had it 2 months now, and it went up 1mpg. I'm hope that as summer approaches and it gets some more miles under its belt, that it increases even more. Premium out by me is $3.10 in most places and going up weekly. Meanwhile, these fuckwad oil companies are putting up record profits every f'n quarter, while I'm shelling out over $40 for a tank of gas.

Man, why is my MPG so low? I live in the Northwest Suburbs in Chicago, Mount Prospect.
I am averaging 16-17 MPG city/hwy... I don't gun at anytime, and I try to keep my RPM under 3,000 at all time.

The only thing is, when I brought my car into the dealership after they scratched my rim, they took PSI out of my tires and brought it down to 33, after driving. It is around 30 cold, and I think that may impact my MPG, but I didn't think it would be that harshly.

Any ideas?

R U still under warranty? I would have the dealership perform a diagnostic to uncover a problem. Gas went to $3.19/gallon today, so it would be worth it, even if you have to pay for the diagnostic.
I'd Seafoam it, too. Seems to work for most on this forum.

how many miles? You are aware that accelerating very very slowly can also murder gas millage, right? also what speeds do you normally run at? MT or AT? accelerating at a moderate pace will be your best bet along with not using the brakes so much, such as a car pulls in front of you, let off the gas and slow down till you have proper car lenght ahead of you, don't slam the brakes and then accelerate later( this is if someone comes into your lane and you are very close to them)Put the tire pressures at 35 COLD and it will improve. Here in daytona, the speed limits are 45 and i get about 26-29 MPG and 33-34 on the highway going 75-80 MPH. Had air filter, oil, seafoam done 2k miles ago.

Can you tell us the degree to which the high-flow cats increased fuel mileage?
Do you have any before and after MPG figures and what at what speed these were achieved?

Most of my driving is stop and go in the city of Chicago and I avg about 17. And I don't necessarily feather the gas pedal to increase mileage That might change though. I just paid $3.75/gal for 93...

I’ve averaged 30 MPG (both MID and manual calculation) over the 10 months of ownership; 31 MPG over the last month:

a) 80 mile work commute (hilly, from Dutchess to Westchester county, NY)
b) 70-75% highway driving
c) Average highway cruising speed of 70-72 mph / 2000 RPM
d) 93 octane gas
e) Approx. 15,500 total miles to date

The average gains with the cats was somewhere in the 10-12% range on the MPG. You can ask anyone that added the cats to there cars. The original intent was to increase power, but there was a major gain in MPG. As for a before, its been over a year with them on my car, so I honestly do not remember.

Road trip mileage. Had to drive down to Miami and back this past week. So when I got back, I snapped a pic of the MPG on the car.

I started about 70 miles north of Miami and I took the picture when I pulled in the garage at home. I came up the Florida Turnpike to I-75 and then back roads from Cartersville, GA to Rome, GA up over Fort Payne, AL to Scottsborro, AL Back to Huntsville, AL.

The readout says it all. Average speed.....66MPH so it looks like it was 100% highway driving. I was able to get similar results (32MPG for mine) for highway ONLY useage before the newer 19's. Now, it's more like 28-29MPG. These rims are only like a pound heavier than stock but then again, so are the tires as well so 2lbs of unsprung weight can make a bog difference in fuel economy. That being said, I do still get an Average of around 25-26MPG city & Highway combined (43MPG average speed). Our "city" is all 45MPH zones. Sucks for my Highlander Hybrid but is good for the TL (It does as well as the HiHy).

My MPG sucks.............any tips would ablsolutly help a whole lot. My MPG is 16 city and 21 highway and it does not change. I put the K&N Air Filter in and am waiting to see a result, for now I am very dissapointed with it. Even if bumped it up 2 MPG I would be happy but nothing so far. I also ordered the infamous TornadoFuelSaver as a last ditch effort. I will let you guys know how it goes. But overall if anybody has any advice on how to get better gas mileage please PM me.

Seeing that for the 07 TL type-s the ave. is 21 MPG, I don't know if I should feel happy or sad ... LOL ... mine is about 24 MPG with ave. speed being 35 MPH ...i will say prob 80% hwy & 20% city .... definitely within the normal range, so I will leave it at that .... this is kind of small trade-off for getting the type-s ....
