2007 TLS VS G35 Premium

Thinking about replacing our current family TL and was wondering if you had any opinions on the G35. I have been driving Honda products for a dozen years and my sense of loyalty has been beaten out of me with failed transmissions, shitty brakes, squeaking sunroofs, and poor quality stereos.

I had a look at the new Type S and even with the 3.5 it is 20HP short of the G's 306. And... I really dislike the wheels on the type S. I have read a few reviews on the type S and it is the same old stuff... nice car, but front wheel drive has inherent limitations.

The G is now available in all wheel drive, which seems pretty appealing. I haven't driven either car yet as I want to set it up so that I drive them one after the other.

Any thoughts?

All comparison threads will be locked by mods. There are plenty of TLS vs. G35 threads already.

There are multiply other threads with the same comparison....I drove both before going with the TL-S....IMO the G35 interior and its price tag of 40k (loaded G35x) which isn't that negotiable at this time (being that its a new design etc) isn't very appealing to me...I just feel more comfortable buying a 4th model year of the TL 3G over the 1st with this new G35 design which will likely have a lot of small issues which I'm not willing to deal with

Drive them first; its up to u. I obviously opted for the TL-S, the G didnt really appeal to me for some reason even though its not a bad car; I just love the style of the TL. Honestly i dont have a problem with the front wheel drive of TL and the 286hp is more than enough for me. Im sure the G is a great car as well but i just can get over its bulky deformed look.lol

Good luck on whatever deal you make.

The G35 is definitley a good car. The G35 has it all and I agree, compared to the 2007 TL it's missing performance, awd, rims, and a good sound system. The only thing bad I heard about the G35 is that it eats up more gas compared to the TL and it is a little small from the inside, looks a little compact. The steering wheel is small and thick which makes it feel weird. I guess its something you can get used to. The coolest thing the G35 has is the change from fwd to awd. Plus the G35 is a little faster. The 2008 Acura TL will have the new SH-AWD system for the first time in a 3rd gen TL. But the Acura TL is a little more appealing, once again the G35 is not a bad looking car either.

If I were you I would buy the G35 or I would wait untill fall 2008 for the redesigned 2009 Acura TL to come out. The 4th gen TL is going to be the bomb. I am very sure that the redesigned TL will be the 2009 model. I spoke to the dealer and thats what he told me. So either get the G35 now or wait for some time to get something unique that no one will have on the road for sometime.

Thanks guys... it is good advice to drive them first. I just didn't want to buy another Acura just because of habit.

I actually did a search of 2007 TL-S reviews and came up with very little. I don't understand why the mods would lock a comparison thread?

This helps a lot... not sure if I want to buy the current TL-S and have it upstaged next year. By the way... how is the car market in Toronto? In Alberta ther are no deals... downside of a good economy I guess.

There is NO WAY the 2008 TL will be AWD...its going to be the exact identical design/car as the 2007...

..only as a result of the redesign in 2009 will there be a possible change in drivetrain, until then Acura will almost definitely keep the TL FWD

The comparison threads are in (and go into) the Car Talk sub-forum.
Buy the one you like driving the most.

I drove both with my dad when he was trying to decide on which car to get. At the time he was driving my current 2004 TL.

We first drove the G35 Sport. Great car, tiny turning circle, and wicked fast! I especially liked the responsive paddle shifters. ... But it rides too rough (even rougher than the TL-S), and the interior is just too damn cramped. The rear seat is next to unuseable (especially behind a taller driver), and even in the front seat I felt pinched. Stepping back into the 2004 TL I suddenly felt like I was in a much more spacious car.

Someone made mention of stereos... the sound system on the TL is one of the finest I've ever heard, playing second fiddle only to the Infiniti M45 with the Advanced Tech Package (14 Bose speakers). The TL-S also has tons of gee-whiz tech features you don't see on the G.

In the end, it's up to you, but you asked for our opinion, and this one is mine.

P.S. I saw a Silver TL-S, and the look complements the gray wheels well, IMHO. The TL-S can be had with different wheels anyway. I saw a few. Just ask your dealer.

All car comparison threads belong in Car Talk.

Since we cannot move threads across forums, feel free to repost there, but IMO, there are already too many TL vs G35 threads. Try a keyword search G35*.

Good luck with your decision.
