2007 TL Type S 1/4 Mile E.T.
I was just at Union Grove Raceway in Wisconsin. They were having an
Import Wars special event. The weather was great. 70 degrees and sunny.
The cars were getting great traction. The only TL there was an 07 TL-S
with an auto. Its best 1/4 mile was 14.85 seconds and the worst was 15.05.
NOT very impressive. There were MANY Dodge Neon SRT's running high 12's
and low to mid 13 second 1/4 mile runs. SO many Civic's with minor add-ons
running much faster then the TL-S. Even a stock Civic Si wasn't much slower
then the TL-S. I was wondering why SO many other cars were blowing away
the TL-S. Even Cobalt LS was about as fast, or should I say as slow as the TL-S.

Sorry to burst the bubble, but a TL-S is not fast. If you bought the car thinking it was fast, you bought the wrong car.
286hp in a car that weighs as much as a TL translates to a pretty slow.

YAH, not a fast car, but I expected low 14's, not about 15 flat. The driver was pretty good,
also consistant, but it was an automatic which makes sense. In all the tests I read it ran
high 5's to 60, which should be about 14.0 sec 1/4. OH well, I guess if you want a quick
car, go buy a Neon SRT. Or an EVO, STI. Couldn't believe how FAST MANY of the other cars
were!! HOLLY COW. The TL-S was embarrassing.

Put those same cars on some curves then measure how "slow" it is, it isn't a sport compact like srt4 or civic... my civic smokes all motor g35, 350z, base tl or tl-s, tsx (newer cars are heavier since they are safer)

The only high 5's, 0 - 60 I've seen published were 6MT. Thought the auto was ~6.2, 0 - 60? Don't know how that translates to the 1/4 mile.

The tl-s might not be the fastet....but you got better odds pickin up a chick in a TL-S than a Neon.....Heated leather seats? Navi? Bluetooth? 7speaker surround? with all that stuff...14.0 isn't a bad number....and the car handles like a dream....

BTW: on the quality of the driver. I can't see how that makes much of a difference in a 14 second automatic car. A bad driver will get beat everyday of the week in reaction time & lose the race, but his speed & ET will be pretty consistent.
2/10's of a second in not a big variation for a guy driving a car off the street. It would be interesting to know how much time he had between rounds & did the ET change in a stepped fashion or was it all over the place.
Also if he was running brackets what his dial in was.

It's not a Neon SRT 4. It's an SRT-4. It doesn't keep its economy car name like the WRX STI and Lancer Evolution do... And yes, they are fast cars. They are also ugly, loud, obnoxious, plastic, boring, plastic, economy cars on massive amounts of steroids that are pretty light. The gargle the exhaust makes and the annoying BOV's that the owners use are enough to drive you crazy. You'd think a 1 ton diesel was barreling down on you. (Luckily, they don't make them anymore) So, it's the complete opposite of what the TL-S is. It's not a "fast" car compaired to the ones you mentioned but it's a plush, reliable, comfortable, and quick car, w/ pretty good handling that gets-up-and-goes when you need it to.

1) What was the altitude of the track? Turbos (SRT, Evo, etc.) do better at higher altitudes.
2) Stupid question, but did the TL-S driver switch off the VSA and the climate control? He may not have, given his consistency.
I haven't tried brake-torquing my auto and don't know if that would help in the quarter mile; maybe the TL-S driver should have tried that on a run.

YAH I understand all of the above, I am 45 and my 51 year old brother and I have been into
cars since birth. I have been in Ferrari's Benz's etc. My first car @ 17 was a low 13 second
Chevelle LT-1 with an m-22 and competition plus Hurst. I am just shocked how slow it was.
I expected low 14's. Maybe he was stupid and did leave the VSC on. I watched him and
he got off the line very well. It was in southeast Wisconsin(low alt). And sunny, dry....
15 second cars are by all means not fast at all. And I am not considering a SRT-4, etc.
It would be nice to run 14 flat. I guess if the next gen AWD doesn't offer a stick and at
least 320hp, I will look elsewhere. I understand all the GREAT things about the TL-S, I
just need a car to have the comforts and to be quick. Meaning a 14 second car, which is
quick, NOT FAST AT ALL. 15 seconds is NOT acceptable to me. My 07 TL-S felt quite a bit
quicker then that, but maybe not???

FWIW R&T achieved 14.3 in the 1/4 on the MT TL-S, so 14.8 is probably about as good as it gets for the AT. I'm not going to say anything bad about the TL-S because I think it accomplishes many things at a reasonable price (and I own an 03 TL-S) - but they are not really designed for the drag strip. Another nice car is the IS350, which achieved 13.5 in that same test...

As a comparison, in the latest C&D Mercedes C350 Sport and Cadillac CTS both achieve 14.6 in the 1/4. Mercedes = 3671lbs/268bhp, Cadillac = 4032lbs/304bhp. Subaru Impreza WRX gets 14.4 in the 1/4. Subaru = 3200lbs/224bhp. Not much mystery in these numbers...

It's not a 1/4 mile drag car. It's a sport luxury car.
Some of those cars you mentioned are just plastic junk boxes riced to the gills.
I personally don't take my $38k TL-S to the track. I use it to drive to work and get around town. I appreciate the extra power for passing and spirited driving every now and then; but I mainly bought the TL for it's features. Navigation, leather, power heated seats, bluetooth, etc.

wow, i think it's driver.. I wonder if he used the brake-torque method?
I drive an 06 auto TL w/ nav..
fastest I ran was 15.06, slowest was 15.2x(my first two runs. After that, i hit consistent 15.0's and one 15.1,while trying a diff. launch method). KEEP IN MIND THE WEATHER IN SACRAMENTO RACEWAY WAS ABOUT 95+ DEG WHEN I RAN AT THE TIME... and all I have is a AEM CAI w/ spare tire out running on stockies..
I know this guy can do better on his TL-S. He just needs to learn how to drive it..
i'm sure i can break into 14.9 if weather was good and track was more well prepped.

Whats the fun in go straight? thats BOOOOOOORING. Its all about taking turns at 70 miles an hour. thats were the real skill is. If you wanted a quarter mile car get an american muscle car. The TL is a track car. put all those cars in a track and the TL will be up thier because of its balance and handeling.

LOL..... dont resurrect this 2003 Argument.
If I still had my window sticker for my SRT-4 I would show you where Dodge clearly called the car a Dodge NEON SRT-4. In fact, calling an SRT-4 a neon is a much more accurate statement than calling an Evo a Lancer.

Stock for stock, isn't the 3G TL-S the fastest, all-motor FWD car out there? Maybe the 6G 6MT Maxima would give it a run for its money, but I don't what else would.

to not get beat, and being stuck behind people who CAN'T READ the
speed limit. Then having to pass them doing way over the limit.
5.4 0-60 and LOW 14 is very good. A 15 second 1/4 mile is more like
0-60 in 6.5 or so. Hell a Civic Si is about that fast.

i use to run my SHO low 15s at the track. this car is faster IMO havent run it yet and a driver can make a good .5 sec difference in the wrong direction.
regardless mine is quick enough for what i wanted but in 2 years i might be looking at a CTS-V. if Acura goes bye bye with clutch.

drag?
seriously... are some of you guys dragging your TL's?
as an owner of many Honda's/Acura's, as a long time loyalist to the "H" and "A" brands. why, why, why would you drag race a 4 door luxury car!... why?... why?
not to diss drag racers out there, not to diss 600HP civics running 10's or lower... but damn it... this is a Luxury car... not just a luxury car but a car valued at damn near 40 thousand dollars... and you want to drag race it?... seriously?... do us all a favor... supe up the CRX... hell, do it right and get Detroit power... but never, never drag race a 40 thousand dollar luxury 4 door... especially if you have the automatic... why?... again... why?...
not when you have places like Leguna Seca, Infineon Race Way, Button Willow... drive down a mountain pass, take part in a Solo event or the SCCA... but going straight just isn't ment for the TL...
On the way to San Diego from Stockton we managed to stay right behind an M3... turn for turn, straight for straight... though we never passed it up... we also never fell behind... is the TL-S fast?... it's damn fast enough...
