i actually put the key into a vice, and held a hacksaw blade right against the metal of the key and cut straight through the plastic. it's too hard to cut with my exacto. i don't think there's any real way to make the cut really clean, but the jb weld will help to fill in any uneven spots.
i just put another thin coat of jbweld around the outside of the plastic, to fill the seam even more. once it is sanded and painted, it should look pretty good
oh and.... i'm not too concerned about the jbweld coming off. once the key is in the housing, it's not coming out.... i also cut my stock key as perfectly as possible, so it's wedged into the plastic tight.

thanks guys. i don't think you will have a prob doing this with tl or tsx keys, because the flipkey is exactly the same. the only difference is in the keyless entry transmitter
this mod is just very annoying and time consuming. if you have patience though, you should be able to pull it off

So I was brainstorming JKautosports how are you going to get the new 07 TL transmitter in the RDX fob? Since the TL fob has a button for the trunk release, it won't fit in the fob.
Also when you modded for existing key, did you cut it exactly like the laser cut blade. Thats alot of intricut pieces cuts.

the transmitter is 3 pieces: faceplate w/ buttons glued onto it, back cover w/ battery, chip in the middle. all i have to do is remove the faceplate from the rdx key and put it on the tl transmitter, to delete the 3rd button. OR just rip the trunk button off the tl transmitter, since it's just glued on. nobody will ever know it was even there.

oh and if you look at the pic i posted up there ^ you'll see what i mean. i believe the only difference between the rdx key and tl key is the silicon chip itself! the casing is probably the same. notice there is a black rubber circle where the 3rd button would be for the tl...

how easy will it be to sand off all that jb weld? do you think it will have problems sticking because of the excess? also when you put it back together was it "thinner" than with the lasercut key in there? I know our keys are not as thick as a laser cut key and with sawing out some of the plastic housing does that make a difference?

the jbweld was very easy to sand! i already sanded it down, and the flip mechanism works perfectly! i still need to put a thin coat of black paint on it to finish it off, which i'll do this weekend. once it's finished, i don't think anyone will be able to tell what i did. i think this thing is just as strong as it was before.
as for the key.... it is actually approx the same thickness up there... at least mine is. i know for the rsx, there are two different keys. some people have a thinner, shorter key, and others have a thicker one which is longer. i have the longer key.... i don't see this as being an issue though. if the key is too thin, just fill up the extra space with some jbweld, and it should be fine.
i'll get a vid clip of the key this weekend. hopefully i'll have a working transmitter by then too!

I picked up one of the 07 TL fobs this morning for less than $50 (including tax) at my dealership. I'd like to understand why it wouldn't be easier to just have the excess thickness simply milled off by a fabricating shop and then cut like a normal key.

^^ I actually had that idea after my father tooled the standard key to fit. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem sending the blade through a laithe to decrease the thickness and make the shape match.
Would a place like homedepot be able to put the key+fob in the cutting machine?

Just a quick update: I have disassembled the 07 TL remote and am trying to find a resource to do the milling/grinding on the blank. Hopefully I can find a place but worse case, I'll simply do the hacksaw thing JKautosports did to his RDX key and fit an 05 TL blank in there. In my ignorance, I thought he had to saw apart the entire housing, not just the blank where it rotates on its axis. 
I'll say this, taking apart the remote was a pain. The little screws holding the spring mechanism in place DID NOT want to come out. The metal on those screw heads were very soft and I ended up using brute force to get the little silver one out because it was completely stripped.
Also, while taking the remote apart, I noticed that the manufacturer was OMRON, not VALEO so hopefully that will make people happy.
I've attached the post-mortem shots below. I'm hoping I can get this all wrapped up by the weekend. Also, can anyone confirm a manual way for normal users to recode the transponder instead of taking it to the dealer? Is this step necessary?

I've shown my dad the pics of the key and he said it is possible to just machine the laser cut blade to the exact specifications of the stock blank blade. Take the blade and a stock blade to a machine shop give them $20 and let them do it for you. Make life alittle easier........

why take the time to disassemble the whole key if it is possible to just cut the key and program the immobilizer and key fob

it would be nice if there was a person (similar to the txs forum) that can do this for us,, and obviously take donations for their time... im sure that my key won't turn out as nice as a person that has done it many times over.

it might depend on which dealer you go to... when i modded the accord fob i brought it to the dealer that i bought the car from... they were very nice and very interested themselves to see if it would work... just remember to bring your other key and your valet key with you as they need to program them all at once.

I have a guy working on mine as we speak. He will work on whoevers wants it done. I believe he is asking for $50 plus s&h. Ill post pics when I get mine done, and give the exact amount if anyone is interested.
