2007 TL-S ::: How is the Automatic tranny?

Im currently a member of the CL family. I LOVE my CL-S but Acura really dissapointed me after my transmission failed at 90k miles. I was going on the freeway and my dumb tranny downshifted to second gear and I almost got eaten by a big ass SUV. What really made me trade my CL for another car is that Acura put the same tranny with the same faulty design back. I give my lil cousins a lot of rides and dont feel safe riding in my car anymore.
Im considering buying a new 2007 TL-S and was wondering if the automatic transmission had the same problems. Is the transmission redesigned? How does the shifting feel? My CL was kinda jerky after i got the new tranny. PLZ HELP

EDIT: Did any of you guys with 3rd gen TLs have tranny problems? Are y ou guys covered till 100k too?

My 04 tl tranny was replaced at 56k because of a shudder between 3rd and 4th.

Here ya go...also drove an 07 TL non-s...A/T is much better than 06 and past..in sport shift you can hold 1st which you cannot do in the old 3gen trans..

From VTEC site, which got it from Honda:

"The standard transmission in the TL and TL Type-S is an all-new electronically controlled 5-speed automatic. Developed from the RL's 5-speed automatic, this transmission has more torque capacity that the one it replaces, but more compact. It also features Acura's Sequential SportShift system. Inspired by Formula One® racecars, Sequential SportShift gives the driver the flexibility of a self-shifting automatic or the control of a manual. The system has been reprogrammed this year for smoother operation and enhanced gear holding capabilities. In addition, the TL Type-S "rev matches" during manually selected downshifts.

Available on Type-S models is a smooth-shifting 6-speed manual transmission. Similar to the manual transmission on the 2006 TL, it features a re-designed bellhousing and improved clutch feel for smoother, more linear engagement."

1,000 miles and the auto on my TL-S has been great. Very smooth, quick shifts. I haven't really used the paddle shifters or sport shift too much. It does hold gears very well for aggressive driving.

I agree! I think the auto works great on my TL-S. I came from a 06 auto and can tell a big difference.

The only "acknowledged" issue from Acura that I am aware of in the 3G models is for the '04 year. And, it basically was something to the effect of the fluid was not providing adequate cooling, and was causing the possibility of scorching inside the gears. There was a recall that told them to replace the fluid with a new one. And, based on how many miles at the time, inspect, tear-down, and/or replace any scorched parts.

My '06 has been fine up to the 11k I'm at.

When you guys say you can feel a big difference, what difference can you feel?

The most obvious different is the fact that you could hold 1st gear in the 07. Other then that, can you actually feel the quicker shifts?

I picked up my 07 TL-S today and it feels a lot smoother than my CL-S. I never drove a 3rd gen b4 so i cant really compare 04-06 to 07.

A lot quicker and the fact they are on the wheel means I use them a heck of a lot more, they are fun especially with the new transmission.

There was one person on this forum who had a little over 100k miles on his 2004 TL without any problems with the automatic transmission. He serviced the unit every 20-25k with a partial service using genuine ATF-Z1.
