Unhappy 2007 TL Performance

Compared to my 2004 auto TL, my new 2007 is a dog. Anyone else notice any difference in performance?

I dont see how your new tl could be worst performance than your 2004. There the same car. How ever Hondas engines require some major breaking in before you can really tell the true performance of a honda/acura. I noticed on my 06 tsx that it ran alot better once I hit over 10,000 miles.

I had an 04 and now a 06. The 04 did seem to have more get up and go. The 06 feels more solid. The 04 got better mileage on the road than my 06. 31-33 mpg was easy in the 04 compared to the 29-31 in my 06.

Both cars are equipped the same. 5sp auto.

I find my 07 AT seems to drag on the shifting, almost like it slips more until the tranny locks up in gear, but then Honda 6cyl trannies have always sucked! I wouldn;t say it is very different than my 06 or 04, but I do feel like it slips more.

The oil from the factory has additives in it which keep the motor doged down so it does not do any damage to itself during the break in period. As soon as you get you 3rd oil change, it will be like you 04 TL. An Honda motors get better with performance and gas consumption as the wear a little bit.

Could you explain how these additives in the motor oil keep the engine 'doged' down.

I had an 04 and got an 07 type S last friday. My first impressions were that the 04 was faster, that was because it has been broken in and has adjusted to my driving style. As I get to know my type s I realize how wrong my first impressions were. Give the car some time. It will pick up the pace.

re: 2007 Performance

Both cars are automatic non-S TL's. Anyone know if there is a difference in the trannys?

Maybe it's just the MRP TLS's. Mine is pretty damn quick too.

I've heard they changed the engine computer formatting to reduce torque steer and the stability control kicks in earlier.....may explain why it feels slower.

I will back this up. I can't explain how or why. But, after my first oil change, my '06 TL had much more power. I attribute it to the oil change. It was the only thing that I did to my car that weekend. The next time I drove it, it was a big difference in power. And, I did my first oil change at 2,000 on the odometer.

By the way, I would had never had the balls to state this by myself. I am barely brave enough to just back-up someone else saying it. Because, I have no clue how this could had happened. But it did.

In 06 the 6MT got a new computer; steering angle sensor/program was added to counter torque steer

The 07 TL now uses the RL transmission; maybe the performance difference you feel is in the shift points? Or maybe the RL has more power loss than the 04-06 5AT

I read somewhere Honda uses special oil when the car is new to help w/ break-in, after it gets changed out you will see a difference

Re: Break-in oil. It is basically Havoline motor oil. It has an abundance of molybdenum which is an anti-wear additive. Other than that, nothing different. It is 5W-20. I had mine analyzed at the lab.

That said, Honda/Acuras have tight tolerances when new. It takes several thousand miles for them to loosen up. You will notice better performance after 5,000 miles or so.

That's my and my experience.

I had an '05 6mt and it was fast, I just bought an '07 type-s 6mt, and its faster. I am currently in a loaner '07 5at (Getting the clearbra put on), and this thing is so slow, its so mushy and is no comparison to my '05 6mt or '07 6mt. I think the issue is just the 5at.

True, they did. As steering angle increases, the reduction in torque steer decreases. Right in the tech. specs.
Acura responding to people bitching because they couldn't handle the horsepower, who should have bought a Civic or Accord.

I should have said the reduction in torque steer INCREASES with the angle of steer. Hope this makes it easier to understand.
