Anyone know how much this service costs? My 04 p/s hose was replaced in the last recall, but is leaking again. When I called, all they said was that it was done already. Anyway to have them do it again?

I went in at noon and they finished the work in 90 minutes.

KJ TL-S 05-25-2012 06:49 PM

Thanks, guessing they got it right. I'm surprised they did it so quickly. My dealership told me they wouldn't do it while I waited because they needed to wait for it to cool first.

SilverSVT 05-25-2012 10:17 PM

I got an e-mail from Jay Wolfe in KC today that my car was included and that they would proved me a loaner.

So about the O-Ring, I remember reading about a noise that this O-ring caused on cold days, is this is the same O-ring? Is it confirmed to be included with the service or am I going to have to ask for it to be done. I can't imagine even if I had to pay for it (since they are in there already anyway) that it would be more than $10.

My last loaner was a base '12 TL, yeah, liked a few small things, but my 3G is still better. The time before that I had a RDX Turbo. Easily chirped the tires going into 2nd w/out even trying!

The O-ring in question is 1.) part of the replacement hose kit and 2.) specified to be replaced per the recall kit installation instructions. This is 100% fact; just look at TSB 12-020 (and/or TSB 08-016).

Whether they actually do it or not - - they are absolutely, 100% supposed to.

Power Steering Feed Hose Kit: P/N 06535-SEP-307
(Contains P/S feed hose, P/S pressure switch
O-ring, P/S pump inlet O-ring, and all bolts, nuts, and
gaskets needed for the repair.)

....

10. Replace the P/S pump inlet joint O-ring:
• Remove the inlet joint from the pump (one bolt).
• Remove the O-ring from the inlet joint.
Lubricate a new O-ring with clean P/S fluid, then
install it on the end of the joint.

• Reinstall the inlet joint, and torque its bolt to
11 N.m (8 lb-ft). .....

They will probably not recall for this; I had the same problem. If you do a forum search there are a lot of posts regarding this well-known issue and the fixes outlined in the "garage" posts are accurate. My dad is a master mechanic who owns his own shop and I ran the information by him. He pulled up the service bulletin from his shop software and it reads verbatim to what is posted in these forums. We purchased the part (not cheap even after they were supposedly giving us a wholesale discount) and swapped out the valve in under 5 minutes (we used Mitchell shop software, but the forum posts outline the exact same procedure in non-technical terms). I haven't seen the light/message for the gas cap at all for almost a year now. The dealer we purchased the part for wouldn't even do us a personal favor to cover it under California's extended emissions replacement laws. If you need more info, PM me since I've thread jacked enough

when my type-s was at the dealer a few months ago they noticed a leak and fixed it under good will (they put RL) since recall was not available.

3? Are you sure? I would assume that they just drain the reservoir and refill it after doing the recall. In that case, the reservoir would only hold 1. If they flushed everything from rod to rod, then they would get 3. Maybe your fluid looked like crap and they decided to do it in good will.

Read the TSB.

....
REQUIRED MATERIALS
Acura Precision Crafted Power Steering Fluid:
P/N 08206-9002A
(Each vehicle may need up to three 12 oz. bottles.)
....
If they actually used 3-bottles, you're better off. It means they did a complete flush of the old fluid.

Whether or not they actually needed to use 3 bottles of PS fluid, would anyone be surprised if a dealer charged Acure for 3 bottles on every recall they do?

Not likely, since all fluids were changed in January when I got the car. But either way, I'm glad that they replaced the fluids again

I like it, I would mind having one if I wouldn't have found my TLS but I definitely like the look of our cars a lot better

gdong 05-30-2012 10:21 AM

got a tsx-tech. handling is pretty nice but the engine is weak, and interior materials feel cheap.

Isn't it identical to the tl-s in terms of mechanics? 3.5 FWD...I can't imagine torque steer on that big mofo!

gdong 05-31-2012 09:39 AM

i got my baby back, right away pulling out of my parking spot i felt the power steering was a bit lighter than what I was used to. Overall i went from quite stiff to a decently stiff steering wheel.

bonnhew 06-01-2012 03:33 AM

are Type S included in this recall? my car shows up as its not on the list.

Healingduck 06-01-2012 03:50 AM

^You need to give them a call. The online database is not updated yet.

And yes, the Type-S is included.

JD TL-S 06-01-2012 10:09 AM

I bought an 07 TL Type-S last week, I bet it hasnt been brought in yet ???
So all I have to do is take it to any Acura dealer? Right? I bought it from a private seller, not an Acura dealer.

Call the dealer with your VIN to confirm you're in the recall pool. Then, assuming you are, make an appt with the dealer. Doesn't matter where you bought it, a recall is a required warranty repair.

con5tant 06-05-2012 03:39 AM

interior is ok..navigation is better but not touchscreen

overall i like it...until i get out and see what it actually looks like from the outside

June 2012
Campaign K53
Safety Recall: Power Steering Fluid Leak
Dear Acura TL Owner:
In accordance with the requirements of Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act (CMVSA), we are sending
this letter to notify you of a Safety Recall that applies to your vehicle.
Please check that the 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) at the top of this letter matches the
17-digit VIN on the upper left of your vehicle’s dashboard.
What is the problem?
Prolonged exposure to high under-hood temperature may cause the power steering hose to deteriorate
prematurely and develop a fluid leak. A power steering fluid leak could lead to a loss of power steering
assist. Power steering fluid leaking onto a hot catalytic convertor may generate smoke or, in the worst
case, lead to an under-hood fire.
What should you do?
Contact your Acura dealer to schedule an appointment to have your vehicle’s power steering hose
replaced. This will also allow your dealer to give you an idea of how long they will require your vehicle –
usually less than a day. The dealer will perform the repair free of charge.
Who to contact if you experience problems:
If you need assistance with locating an Acura dealer, please contact Acura Canada’s Client Services at
the contact information provided below, or visit our website at www.acura.ca.
If the dealer fails or is unable to make the necessary repairs free of charge, you may contact Acura
Canada’s Client Services.
What to do if our information is incorrect:
This notice was mailed to you according to the most current information we have available. If you no
longer own this vehicle, or some information in this notice is incorrect, please fill out and return the
included postage paid Information Change Card or forward this notice to the new owner if possible.
Thank you for your co-operation. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
Sincerely,
Jerry Chenkin

Agree with the above completely. The stereo is definitely better than my TL stocker.

I only got a TSX Premium :( and the steering is soooo loose on this.

umakemekissu 06-13-2012 01:49 PM

ok guys I need help here. I just called a local Acura dealership and they told me that they would need to inspect it first to see if the service need to be done.
I completely disagree with this and am thinking a recall means I bring my car in and they need to work on whatever the recall is for, no question asked. Wouldn't you guys agree?
Also, I remember seeing an Acura service bulletin on how to work on this recall but can't seem to find it now under "Acura ServiceNews Bulletins". I'd appreciate it if anyone can post me a link to that bulletin. Thanks

got it resolved. basically American Honda agrees with me so I called the dealership, spoke to a service manager, he agrees. but i still didn't wanna make the appointment cuz they said they only approve loaner for 3+hours services. I called B/S.
Called another local dealership Acura of Peabody, got a loaner and appointment done in 2 min.
Bottom line: Fk Acura of Boston

jeeva86 06-13-2012 03:12 PM

Make sure to tell them not to wash the car!! I failed and forgot to tell them and I have a bunch of light swirls :(. Called up the dealership and they claim that they handwash all the cars but I'm pretty sure they injected this as they weren't there after my previous hand wash. I hate dealers!!!

umakemekissu 06-16-2012 10:23 AM

got an MDX as a loaner today.. been a long time fan of its exterior.. but interior disappoint me big time... :whyme:

I went in for an oil change on Saturday and asked them about the recall and they said they could do it that day no problem. Gave me a loaner for a few hours in case I had anything to do. Got a 2012 TL SH-AWD with 1,000 miles on it. I must say that after driving it around for a while I was happy to get my '07 back. Inside and out I like everything about the '07's better.

mau108 06-18-2012 01:57 PM

you guys are lucky...I got a POS CSX as a loaner. I'll be back in my baby this evening :)

ShadowAcura 06-18-2012 02:16 PM

I did mine last week and just waited for the car to be done took them about 2 hours to do. I went back in my car and the steering did feel slightly different. It was not as firm as it was but it did feel smoother when turning. I am just starting to get use to the new steering feel but it is still firmer than say the new TSX steering so I say kudos to that lol

parasitius 06-18-2012 02:32 PM

Dang. Got my oil change last week and they didn't have the parts yet for recall. (Knew nothing about it till I told them)

I hope steering is a bit easier after... to be honest I really like the stiffness initially, it inspires a lot more confidence hitting high speeds on the highway, but ... it's starting to be a bit painful having to turn it so hard around town a few days after going hardcore at the gym and having all sore and tender arms.

con5tant 06-18-2012 02:50 PM

Your Acura dealer didn't know anything about the recall?
I probably wouldn't take my car there. For anything.
That's just me though
