2007 & 2008 Acura TL Recall

Honda says it’s recalling nearly 53,000 Acura TL sedans in the U.S. to fix a problem with power steering hoses.

The hoses can deteriorate over time and leak fluid. That can cause the cars to lose power steering or even cause a fire.

The sedans are from the 2007 and 2008 model years. Honda says there have been no reported crashes, injuries or fires related to the problem.

Honda Motor Co. recalled 273,000 TLs in in 2008 for a similar problem. They were from the 2004 through 2008 model years.

Owners will get letters in mid-June telling them to take their cars to an Acura dealer.

I'm pretty sure my 06 had this. Not sure if it was a recall, but it was definitely a TSB for it. Mine was replaced about a year ago, it was leaking onto my engine, causing it to smoke at times.

JJH 05-17-2012 07:18 AM

Looking for more information to see if this applies to type-s as well.

SharksBreath 05-17-2012 07:26 AM

^it's been discussed ad nauseum...but the type-s models are NOT covered under the recall because of our VIN numbers or some BS like that. 07-08 type-s' SHOULD be covered, but depending on which month/year/VIN your car has...for some reason, it's not on the list.

luckilly it is a very simple repair and just requires a replacement o-ring.

Jcaron9gt4 05-17-2012 07:49 AM

^ I don't think the o-ring is the issue, it's the actual hose itself that begins to leak.

SharksBreath 05-17-2012 07:55 AM

^yes but the hose starts to leak because of a faulty o-ring.

the replacement o-ring is different, and a different color. orange/red.

Jcaron9gt4 05-17-2012 08:03 AM

Well when Acura did mine, they only changed out the hose, not the o-ring...I did that myself a few months later. :annoyed:

06cmv6 05-17-2012 08:31 AM

doesnt include the type S? what kind of BS is that...its a 07-08 too...wonder if ill get a letter

wall e 05-17-2012 08:56 AM

im waiting for the recall on the "tighten fuel cap" issue. I tighten my cap over 5 clicks and the light likes to come on randomly and off randomly.

DMZ 05-17-2012 08:56 AM

Acura of Ramsey in NJ replaced the hose back in '08, but stupidly didn't do the O-Ring. That had to be done at another dealer.

Acura of Ramsey is CLEARLY the most incompetent dealer I've ever been to, and should be on the DEALERS TO AVOID list right up there with Paragon and Acura of Brooklyn.

How do I know whether my 2008 TL is included? Thanks.

Go to www.myacura.com and input your VIN.

Azndjay 05-17-2012 10:04 AM

when i bought my TL-S I have notice that the power steering was leaking so they took a look at it and replace the whole setup from pump to lines. The car felt like it was driving without power steering

Mug 05-17-2012 10:11 AM

So is this another hose recall? I had mine done about a year after I purchased the car. It's the only time my car has been to the dealer  .

Thank you for the information. My 2008 Type-S was not covered under the previous Recall.

When I logged in to myacura.com this morning, the web site did not list a Recall for my vehicle. So, I called American Honda Motor Co., Acura Client Relations and selected Option 4 for Recall Information. After providing my VIN, they confirmed my car is covered this time.

Phone: 800-382-2238

VanyDotK 05-17-2012 10:43 AM

I'm at the dealership right now and the Type S IS covered under the recall, my hose isn't leaking but they're going to replace it anyway.

They did the recall in February when I had my brake fluid flushed.

The question/issue I have right now is: Why did it take 3 months for AP to release that?
In the back of their mind?

Cheval 05-17-2012 12:05 PM

Input my VIN and the recall doesn't apply to my '08. Still have yet to ever have a recall on it. Guess mine was made late enough that most of the problems were fixed on it.

Bearcat94 05-17-2012 12:07 PM

Bet it's for the Type-S's - which the dumb-asses excluded as a class in the BIG (273,000) recall.

I'll see if I can find the NHTSA docs and/or TSB's.

Thanks for the heads up.

~Lefty~ 05-17-2012 12:08 PM

Yep, just made my appointment with the dealership. They said most majority of the Type-S's are covered.

Bearcat94 05-17-2012 12:13 PM

No update at NHTSA. Yet.

No updates on the TSB page. Yet. https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/3g-tl-technical-service-bulletins-tsbs-3g-garage-j-016-a-613659/

i just got off the phone with honda. the lady said the myacura hasnt been fully updated yet so alot of people who are included in the recall will see that they arent included if the log in. if you call them they will tell you right away if you are or arent included. on myacura im not included but when i called i found out i am part of the recall.

This thread is a NEW recall on the same problem. Remains to be seen from documents (TSB and NHTSA), but as I mentioned before, I'm betting it's to included the previously excluded Type-S's.

:wish:

+1
Yep call
(800) 382-2238 and hit option 4. Make sure you have your VIN# ready and they can tell you for sure if ur car is covered or not. Also, she told me to just wait until my notice comes in june to call the delar since they might not have all the parts yet.

I plan on calling them anyways today since i had few other things i wanted to ask them.

Pretty much what they told me at the dealer a few moments ago.

Bearcat94 05-17-2012 12:32 PM

I've got the recall notice/press-release in my "Model Information --> Recalls" box at myacura.com.

2007 TL-S, 5AT. VIN in the 19UUA7 ..... x9000 range.

rptls08 05-17-2012 12:34 PM

my power steering has gone out again. i got the hose fixed out of pocket the first time but this time i think its the entire system. do you guys think they will fix everything under the recall?

gatrhumpy 05-17-2012 12:34 PM

What happens if I just bought this car used from a private seller? Would the recall still apply?

myztix 05-17-2012 12:37 PM

So, is this 'recall' NEW as of 5/17/2012?
Does that mean the recall they did back in Feb 2012 for my power steering hose doesn't address this recall?

I guess I need to give the dealer a call.......

myztix 05-17-2012 12:39 PM

Recalls are based on the VIN #.

Yes. IF you're in the VIN range.

A recall ALWAYS applies if you own the car, the repair has not been done previously AND you're in the VIN range.

(rebuild/salvage titles might be excluded; not sure.)

Can't say it new as of TODAY; although we're just hearing about it today. But it's new compared to the BIG 273,000 TL PS Hose recall.

Edit:

The date on the notifiction in my myacura.com account is today's date.

Illegal for them to refuse it on salvage/rebuilt vehicles. :)

SharksBreath 05-17-2012 01:07 PM

 this thing is ridiculous.

you got a type-s? what year? 07 and the VIN matches...you're in luck! you are covered!

oh...you have an 08 type-s? sorry...this doesn't apply to you. better luck next time.

:bored:
