2006 TL Canadian DRL upgrade or replacement plus High Beams

Hi Guys I did a search and wasn't finding a easy answer. I just bought a 06 TL and noticed , (im in Canada) so DRL are standard. The left light is brighter than the right light, assume the previous owner replaced one of the headlights with a different bulb perhaps or is there a common issue i'm not aware of that would cause the lights to dim over time.. Dont think that is the case but none the less.

So from my reading it looks like LED are a bit of a pain and one needs to change more than just the bulbs. Im looking for a simple plug and play for the Day Time lights and then I guess the high beams too as they are pretty weak.
Love to know what is the best option and easiest way to go about this. I read also to change the headlight bulbs the bumper has to come off. That sound a little crazy so if someone can clarify that be great.
I prefer a nice crisp white if possible but whatever you guys have been upgrading with I'm all ears. Thanks in Advance,

High beam and low beam are same projector same bulb. If you're not satisfied with high beams change the bulbs as they do dim over time. D2S is what you need. I recommend Osram CBB. Bought like 3 pairs of those already. Headlights in TL are pretty good from the factory. Are your headlights clean? Any yellow haze that comes naturally with age will diminish the output and reconditioning the headlights isn't that hard.

To replace low beam / high beam you do need to drop the bumper but that's pretty easy imho. Can do it in like 10 minutes on the floor, but it's not my first rodeo. You will need a phillips screw driver and push pin pliers like
Amazon Amazon

Check out youtube if you want to know more. DRL and turn signals should be accessible without taking the bumper off.

Converting the DRL to high beam would be easy (just need the relay, inline fuse, and some wires), and you can put any standard LED bulb in there then, but you would lose DRL. However I have no idea how good light output those would provide, as reflector wasn't designed for that purpose, and might get damaged if used with standard halogen bulbs.
Converting DRL to LED DRL - like you wrote, either do some wiring yourself or try searching for some premade wiring harness.
Converting DRL to function as both DRL and high beam would be harder. If you also want to use LEDs then, it would require some bulbs that have the DRL option already in, but I have no idea if that would work even then.

Hey appreciate the quick detailed reply,. I guess im confused a bit and need to look at my lights, So the inner DRL light that I see in my Canadian model is what I like to replace now as the passenger side seems very dim compared to the Drivers nd there dated yellow looking. wanted to make it a nice bright white etc.. the low beam and high beam your saying are the same bulb it just sends more wattage when you flip on high beams correct ?? if im right so far then if I wanted a plug and play I replace with D2S bulbs from one of the manufactures you mentioned. If I want to switch to LED then I can use a aftermarket harness to allow the LED to not throw a code and then get LED bulbs..

re the yellow haze yes my detail shop is polishing my headlights this Tuesday for me. He is also able to replace my bulbs so I wanted to buy a set. prior too. So for DLR what are some nice upgraded bulb choices ? and those can be changed without bumper removal correct?

By projector I mean this part with big lens where you can't see the light bulb.

Low beam has a metal shield that covers part of the projector. When you flip the high beam on, electromagnet moves that metal shield/cover out of the way. If you stand outside and flip high beams on/off you should hear that shield clunking.

Replacing low beam with anything than D2S / xenon / HID will diminish the light output and is looked down upon on this forum. Just check out the thread where some guy replaced HIDs with LEDs and you will understand. Although to be fair I believe that to be bad idea as well. HID for life.

Inner bulbs act as DRL. Yellow color is because of standard halogen / filament bulbs. There are blue tinted halogen bulbs available but they will look slightly whiter at best.

Once again, with DRL depends what you want to do, but without any modification your options are greatly limited. Basically any halogen (I believe HB3/9005 but check to be sure since Canadian TL might be different than mine) will work. If you want LED then you either need to buy a harness or make your own.

Brilliant thank you so much., fully understand now. I dont need LED so just want the best Halogen options both for DRl and the low/high beam.. I think I got it now. Ill go with the bluer semi white DRL light look over the pale yellow now. so just need to find a replacement option here in Canada

Once again, just to be 100% sure that you understand, low beam / high beam uses xenon / hid light bulb. Not halogen.

Sylvania Ultras are alright.. I used to use them since they boasted the most lumens for a store-bought halogen bulb at the cost of longevity unfortunately. Do you really find yourself using the fogs that often up there? I find the low beams are plenty on our cars, you must just need new D2S HID bulbs to get the best performance out of them.

Hi I don't have Fogs , 2006 A-spec kit and Canadian didn't have fogs .. So im just looking to upgrade my DRL right now as one is very Dim and the color is dated looking. Re my Low and High Beam I was going to look at the two Peter recommended first was just the DRL lights as they are mandatory in the great white north

As you have figured out, the inner bulbs only purpose are DRL. Just look at reviews and videos to find the right colour for you. The ones on Canadian tires website seems decent enough. Should meet what you're looking for.
