Talking 2006 Audi A6 3.2 = Easy

Yesterday. I had one hour break between classes so I decided to go buy some beer.

I came to red light on 45MPH 2-lane road. I was first car with no other cars around me. I see an audi headlight coming behind me while I'm waiting at light. It looks like the new A6(definitley not A4 headlight). Indeed it was A6 by the time this guy pulled up to the light. At this point, I got curious if it's 3.2 or 4.0. Well, it turns out to be 3.2. I was a bit far away from stop light so I could read this off his trunk. So I pulled little closer to the light, gear in SS mode. I gave him a glance couple times and observed lights to see how much time is there.

Light goes green, I got a perfect launch. I could hear engine revving a little then drops back then starts revving up. Still in first gear, audi is SLOW. I terminated it at 50MPH. Audi almost caught me up after few seconds then I blasted his door off by doing quick accel to 70MPH in 2nd.

I wanna race 4.0! not the 3.2.

I'd like to see a rematch in snow... or ice... or rain.

My money is on the Audi - the TL will slide and/or sputter along.

who in their right mind would street race in the ice, snow or rain?
street racing is bad enough w/o inclement weather.

2005 A6 3.2 is a low 7 sec car, TL (even automatic) shouldn't have any problem taking it especially from roll. Forget about A64.2 (335 hp, 310 lb-ft) this is a high 5 sec car (5.9 sec). Nice kill!

4.2 is a heavy elephant. I think either roll or dead start might have chance for TL.

This was my second encounter with the new 3.2.. last time I was on 50MPH road and this guy tried to pass me and there was no chance.

I was talking stock vs stock. Under your present configuration you'd win, no doubt.

You're right, it's over 4000 lb car, and automatic is not as fast as manual (6.3 sec 0-60 Standing 1/4-mile: 14.8 sec @ 97 mph) so under these conditions you have a chance because these numbers are very close with TL auto numbers.

I bought a '05 A6 3.2 for my wife last summer. The car is heavy and the AWD gearing is a power hog. My TL-S can outrun it no problem. But only in the wet or snow will the A6 blow my car away without looking back.

But I wouldn't mess around with the new A6 4.2. It has loads of low end torque and will outrun us with ease.

We already have a Thread in the MEETS forum.

Feel free to drop by and post a reply.

It's about 3500 lbs; a little less for the manual, and a little more for the automatic

yeah I wish TL was around 3400lbs. It seems like even Avalon is 3400's with 268hp engine..... with 22/31MPG DUH shame on honda.

On the other hand, new A3 will be another aleart for me on street. with 3.2 engine Hmmm

If the RS3 ever make it to North American, it'll be even more formidable.

My former boss had over 800hp going through his 3.2 A6, Twin turbo'ed and literallt over a hundread grand aftermarket in the car. . Those cars have a nice platform to build on, but stock to stock they are too slow for the TL-S.
He also has the Hennessy viper pushing over 1000hp, money isn't really an option, I was just suprised he was getting those numbers from the A6 3.2.
