2006/2007 TL Front Bumper/Fog Light Questions
Sorry if there's already another thread somewhere like this, but I'm already frustrated.
I just bought a 2006 Acura TL, and I'm a little disappointed about the fog light situation. I dont want to drill into the plastic or anything or put the Accord fog lights on it.
I know the 07 front bumper will fit on the car, but I dont know what the "bumper Cover" is or the "molding", so what do I need to do to fit the 07 grille on my 06 TL? I dont know what extra things I need other than the bumper and the grille.
Also, the fog lights only come on when the headlights are on? what do I need to do with the wiring to have the fog lights come on without needing to have the headlights on?

The fog lights are in the headlight housing and only come on if the headlights are on, but the headlights are brighter than the fog lights anyway so there's no use for them. I just think it would be better to change it. I think it would look better and be more useful.

fog lights are not supposed to be brighter than the headlights...
fog lights are supposed to cut through the fog. fog is just moisture in the atmosphere ..if you have a brighter light acting as a fog light, the brighter whiter light reflects off the moisture in the atmosphere rendering the fog lights use less.
so a brighter whiter light will only look cool but not be as useful.

Thats why the fog lights are useless, because they can only be on if the headlights are on, and it just makes it worse having them in the headlight housing. They changed that in 07, so I'm trying to know how to put the bumper, grille and fog lights on my 06 TL

I have an 06...
and the fog lights work quite well in the fog. lol
I did upgrade to the type-s bumper, But have not relocated fog lights...i still use my 2006 fog lights in the head lights.
it's going to cost you a grand or more to buy all the parts and get it painted.
just do it the easy way...get into an accident and have insurance buy all the parts for you. that's what I did lol

dang, that looks good. thats pretty much what i want to do (not the insurance thing haha), while also relocating the fog lights. I'm trying to ask about everything I'll need to do to fit the bumper and grille, and how do I have the fog lights on without having the fog lights on?

you're going to spend a pretty penny...
you're going to need;
the bumper - then you'll need to get it painted.
fog lights
fog light grille
fog light mounting points
bumper grille insert
bumper A-arm
and all the trim
then if you want the independent fog light - you'll have to do some electrical work.

Just curious, why do you want to run the fogs with the headlights off?

he doesnt understand the functionality of the OEM fogs...he doesnt understand that the yellow light is more functional. he doesnt understand that if he's driving in fog, he'll need both headlights and fog lights.
he says he cares about functionality, but what he really cares about is looking cool.
he wants independent fog lights just to look cool.

If this is purely a functional thing rather than a cosmetic think, it'd probably be money better spent just upgrading the OEM fogs. I initially went with a 50w HID kit (morimoto) with 5000k bulbs to match the headlights but it honestly wasn't a huge improvement over no fogs (in clear or rainy/foggy weather) other than it just flooded a ton of light close up. Switched to the 3000k bulbs (yellow) and it was a huge improvement over the stock halogens and 5000k bulbs. The yellow hue really helps illuminate things through rain/fog without being blinding, 3000k bulbs are similar in color (maybe a bit more yellow) than the OEM halogens, but they put out a ton more light. You can get a whole kit that is plug and play for like $150ish.

As I'm sure people know, the headlights are kind of bright, and I know how annoying it is when people have their lights on when its not very dark or when its just raining and their lights are bright. I had a 2006 Charger RT, and people would tell me i have those "annoying lights" (HID), but at least i could just have the fog lights and parking lights on when it was raining or just a little dark so i wouldn't have to turn my headlights on.
Thats why I'd want the fog lights on without the headlights on. its just a little bit of light, but enough for me to see and for people to see me.

Thank you for the info 👍

It would not be safe to drive with only fog lights and doing so would get you a ticket (or accident). No fog lights will throw light far ahead, they primarily just illuminate what is close up and off to your side. Regular headlights will use a reflector/projector to throw light farther which is needed for visibility. When people have blinding lights, 99.9% of the time it is because they retrofitted HID or LED bulbs into a stock halogen reflector, or their headlights are not aimed properly. What causes the blinding in both cases is it projecting light upwards towards oncoming traffic's eyes. Properly aimed headlights, or HID's/LED's in the proper projector, will throw the beam forward at a slightly downward angle and can be very bright without blinding oncoming traffic. You can test this by parking say 20 feet from a brick wall and turning your lights on. The beam shown on the wall should not extend above the height of the actual headlights. If they're pointed up there will be a screw that allows you to aim them more downward. If you flip on your high beams you' will see the beam extend upward more which is what makes high beams blinding.

I wouldn't be using only fog lights if it was dark enough for headlights.
If it was just raining (day), or if it was actually snowing hard enough/if i was in very dense fog that I'd have to go very slow in, the headlights would be too bright and i wouldnt see anything in front of me anyway, so I'd use the fog lights without headlights at that point,, which I'd done in my Charger a few times.

For about $75, you can get a module that will make the fog lights double as daytime running lights that will always keep theme on whenever the engine is running except when the headlights are on. Easiest and cheapest way to solve your problem.

I'd rather be able to turn them on/off whenever I want

Throwing this out there: 9012 HIRs can be used in place of the 9006 standard halogens, if you want a bit more oomph out of the fogs without screwing up the color temp. One tab on the bulb base just has to be trimmed a bit.
