2005 TL Timing Belt change
Hi,
I am currently at 118 000 KM and due for a timing belt change. While looking around I was told that I need to change the water pimp as well when changing the timing belt.
Is it required to change the water pump when changing the timing belt?
Also does anyone know any reliable garages which specializes in Acura (besides Dealers) in the greater Montreal it would be appreciated.
Thank you

My family & I have owned at least 20 Acuras & Hondas over the years, I have never changed out the water pump when it was time to change the timing belt on the first cycle (90-100k
miles) & never had a water pump fail or start to leak before the second cycle when I do change it & the belt again (180-200k miles). I do change the antifreeze tho but don't drain the block, only the radiator. But, I'm a mechanic so the labor is no cost. I know you'll hear a bunch nay-nays from the other members but I'm only giving you an honest history of my Honda product quality experience.

Required, no...reasonable yes, although johnny3's comment regarding the pump reliability is well taken- I also haven't heard of a water pump failure, but anything with a bearing may not last indefinitely. The thought is that as long as everything is dismantled for the TB, you might as well change the water pump.

i doing my timing belt and drive belt change next week, i am also doing the water pump not because it is required but because it will not cost any more labor since the mechanic will already be there. so you run the risk of it going out and you having to pay the same amount of labor you paid for the belt again only to do the pump. so it makes perfect sense to do them together and that way you are worry free. just my

If you can't install the water pump yourself to save on labor, it makes since to replace the water pump with timing belt as you only pay for the cost of the water pump which is cheap.

agreed, i was gonna do the pump myself to save labor cost because the kit i bought included timing belt drive belt, tensioner, pump, cabin filter, oil filter, 4 qts of atf so the mechanic gave me a price and said once im in there you should buy the pump, then i said i had it but i wanted to put it myself to save money and he said he would put it on at no extra cost from what he had already quoted me, so i dont have to worry about it.
