2005 5AT vs Lexus IS300

Okay here is the story. I was almost home driving on 35MPH road. I got first spot at red light and a lexus IS300 swirves around traffic and stops in my rearview mirror. I've seen that lexus for about two sets of lights before and I so knew he wanted something.

We weren't in line so I wanted to measure how that thing holds on my tail as soon as light goes green. I turned off VSA and waited for the light to turn green.

Here light goes green and I floored it too hard so my tire screeches for a Full second before it gets grip. There are about 50 cars in all direction of big intersection thank god there wasn't any 5-0. 50 cars and 100 eyes looking at this acura and lexus in action. I hit 20MPH, Lexus is tightly hanging on my tail. That car has some low end launch capability. I am at 35MPH, Vtec changes to high profile and I am pulling away as I can tell from rearview mirror. I hit 50MPH and lexus is history.

I should try to drive conservatively or my tire won't last 20k but I just can't resist!

Probably not a good idea to do it where you did....

BUT... I'm glad to hear you spanked that silly monkey in his IS300!

I knew it was high risk but I can't resist when I see some cars (IS300 , 325i) try on me. At next set of light, he didn't wanna try anymore LOL even though he had plenty of room to get around traffic. I was doing 10 BELOW limit for a while so he would pass me but he didn't at all -scared- LOL.

If you see stock IS300 next time, just give it a try you should be able to pull away after Vtec changes profile (IS will hold tight due to RWD and lightweight advantage at launch)

The IS300 is no lightweight, and no match for older TLs, much less new ones.

3250 sounds lighter than 3600 mine. Really? TL-P can beat IS300? or just TL-S and uP?

my 99tl with I/H/spacers can beat the shit out of any stock IS300, even MT. It is not even close. You defintely could spank one no problem in a 5AT. My TL can actually hang neck and neck with a 3rd Gen 5AT.

The Team that I hang out with, alot of them have Lexus IS300, and many of them either have a Turbo or a Supercharger... in any case. The Lexus IS300 5MT's torque is around 4300, where TL is around 6000. The initial launch, they can keep up pretty good.

Actually...

Peak torque for the TL-P is at 4700rpm (00+) and peak torque for the TL-S was 3500rpm.

So a stock IS300 has no chance. I've driven many of them in both manual and automatic form, and my completely stock 02 TL-P pulls much harder, even from a dead stop.

I hope that monkey in IS300 learned lesson and stay away from TLs in the future

Next time I see IS250, I am going to put my foot down to the floor (LOL) I'm sure there will be another monkey thinks his car is quick cuz he just picked it up and it's "Lexus"

325i is only 184hp. Try the new one (215hp) for a change, you're going to like it!

haha, merging onto highway going to work today, there was a black IS300 with exhaust, maybe more and some 18's(white) going to portsmouth, nh. he was probably going 70mph. I was at 40mph taking a big right turn to get onto ramp and when I pulled straight he was about to go by me, I gunned it and flew past him. once he saw me picking up speed he gunned it and couldn't keep up. I think this cold weather is making my car run a lot stronger, much faster than in the summertime.

A stock IS300 is pretty slow, but a modify IS300 could be very very quick, because it's running the same block as the Supra.

I raced one in the highway and I spanked some serious ass w/the IS300. I have a 3 gen TL 5AT and the IS300 has aft mkt bolts on I bet. The IS300 must of had a intake and performance muffler at least as I can hear it so loud but still no competition w/our TL. I pulled away like 4-5 car length.

The 'team.'

Gosh those days were "fun." Thankfully they went out when I turned 20.

Do they also tell you blonde looks good on you?

Unfortunately, the HP potential in a lexus IS300 is much higher than the TL's potential.

Not any more, with the comptech supercharger that came out. If you supercharge a IS300, cai, and exhaust, and do the same thing turbo or supercharge the IS300 cai and exhaust, the lexus has no chance. The TL with supercharger has the capibilities of 12's in the quarter.

I would love to be the guy that does that and see the reaction at the track...I'm sure we'll start seeing 13's alot now that the s/c is out.

I can really only compare cars factory vs factory. Otherwise I would of gotten 03 cobra or GTO and modded it. IS300 vs TL, TL wins.
