Exclamation 2004 vs 2005 Tl (Both with Nav)?

I'm in the market for the new body style TL w/nav. The dealer has found me a certified 2004 with nav. 22k miles. I tested it today and I feel a vibration when I hit the brakes, which I was told will be fixed. Were there major changes in 2005? Shall I hold out for a 2005? Thanks in advanced

2005 have one more stiching in the seats, but they still leave but prints, they have a pass airbag light over the hazard switch..........everything else to my knowledge is identical.

Plus a slight change to the emblem on the steering wheel and anchoring on the seat belts. That's about it. They are virtually identical.

Question 2004 Tl with Nav 22k

Listed for 29,950. They are asking for 28,850. The vibration during braking has me worried. If I wait long enough i.e Fall they will have loaners with Nav that will be certified pre-owned.

Why would that have you worried. Tell them you want the brakes rotors either replaced or resurfaced

Wheel vibration under braking probably means that the rotors need turned.

The vibration is from warped rotors. Warped rotors is something that all Honda products,(and many other car brands) suffer from if driven by any one other than your grandmother. This is not a big deal and it is easy to fix. You can wait for a newer model , but it will eventually have the same problem, especially if you do any spirited driving. ( I am speaking of the automatic, I don't know if the TL's equiped with Brembs have the same problem.)

with a difference that minute...go for an 06 Model. Paid $35,400 after tax on brand new with nav. Mind you 8.625% tax from NY. So that's $32,600 before tax and a silly $45 document fee I just didn't feel like fighting over.

Go with 06, longer warranty, tire pressure monitor, and all the kinks of 04 and 05 gone. Can't go wrong...and it's not too much extra money either.

I bought my 04 6 speed with nav and only 19280 miles for $25,000 thats pre owned cert. They were asking $29,990 but wait till the end of the month when they are looking to get rid of their inventory then you can beat them up on the price. make sure you dont get sold on any of the other junk they will try and sell you.

I am sorry but the difference is NOT Minute, After taxes your talking almost 7 thousand dollars, and before taxes that's still over 4 thousand dollars. I don't care who you are, that's alot of money. If your worried about the warranty, buy the extended (you won't need to, but if it makes you more comforatable then buy it)the only thing that cars do is lose value, you may as well take advantage of that and buy the used one for thousands less. Nobody will ever know if it's 04 or an 06 but you.

Is it possible to get a listing of these kinks? I've figured that 2004 being the first year for the new body style, its best to get a 2005 or later. After the fix the kinks.

I got this deal at Acura of Brooklyn. Acura of Manhattan was giving me the same deal with extra $100 on it. Acura of Westchester was giving me this deal with about $170 less than Brooklyn but I didn't feel like driving there.

Hope this answers it.

The main change for the 06 was the addition of the tire pressure monitor. Also I think the Nav model got Michelin tires instead of Bridgestone crap. Ofcourse all of the recall issues which were on 04, 05, and beginning of 06 were fixed up.

You can search for those on www.cars.com and you'll see which recall issues were at hand. I don't have a list of all the kinks in 04 and 05 models, but I'm sure there are threads dealing with them.

I owned an 04, bught it Mar 04and as a year 1 car it sucked, squeaks and rattlkes all over the place. I am not sure when they fixed most of them i knmow in Dec. 04 they had a TSB to address most of the back deck issues, but my dash squeaked and ratted as well. I got an 06 in Decemebr 05 and it is far better as there is only one squeak from the driver seat belt assembly on the door pillar. Personally I think the 04 TLs were porrly assembled on the interiror, I would go for an 05 hoping thats when they tightened up the interior build quality. Search aroudn i think there were plenty of 04 wners with squeaks and rattles, sure some didn;t have any, but I think more than a normal percentage did.

thanks guys..this is good info. Unless they drop the price significantly from 28,850 to 25K, only then I may consider, otherwise I'm going to hold out for an 06. I appreciate the feedback.

those loaners take a serious beating during their initial tour of duty. some people just abuse them cuz its not their car.

I got a TSX for a loaner when I brought my TL in to get the dash (infamous fade problem) corrected. Although I only had the car for maybe 6-8 hours, I had no mercy with how I drove that car.

I agree. Loaner cars are pounded. Save yourself the hassle and get the '04. My rotors wobble on my '04 TSX and its a common problem on most Honda's. It's nothing to be worried about.

But that price is WAY too much. No way in hell would I pay that. My Dad got his '05 TL brand new for like $31K (non-nav) but $29K for a 2 year old car...

now you guys got me thinking. I must say the cert-pre owened TL's that I drove were pretty nice. Most of which were about 7k miles. Then again, SClass88 could have been behind some of them...:-)

Warped rotors on Honda products typically come from overtightened lug nuts where whomever last put the on front wheels just let the airgun go till it wanted to stop. They're supposed to be tightened to 80 ft-lbs.
