2004 TL vs. 2000+ Porsche 911

I have all bolt-ons and a supercharger, unfortunately an auto. Anyhow some guy pulls up in a 911. I look over, he is on his cell, typical Porsche driver. So I figured wtf ever. But then we turn to get on the freeway and he gets on it. Shit, he got the jump, and was on it hard, I floor it and I can still see him. He had maybe 3-4 car lengths and not pulling away, then we did the no-no thing and started swerving through traffic. Anyhow, it was cool to see someone with a real sports car drive it like one.

Oh, I would have owned him if I had my air off, traction control off. I just put a full tank of gas in and I was pondering the meaning of life after my pysch appt.

hope you're kidding...any year 911, even the older ones would smoke anyone of our cars, with whatever bolt on...

^^ Ehhhh I'm not so sure. I ran right with a Boxster S when I had just an intake. Yes, the 911 is a different car completely. The 911s run low 13s @105-106 which is in SC TL territory. There's 1 TL that ran 13.39 @103.5 with road racing tires, and an Accord that ran 13.6 @104 with street tires and a halfway decent launch. I'd say we could keep up (keywords) on the highway, but definitely still get pulled on.

It's still a stretch...the 911 is a superior car and is lighter. Once you started swerving in and out of traffic? Forget it. 911, no doubt.

Oh, without question. In a straight we have little shot with ALL bolt ons, in curves no shot whatsoever.

my 944 would eat the above mentioned cars in traffic... a 911 eats my car... there should be no debate here...

Well we do have an 04 TL 6spd with a turbo that dynoed in 450+whp which would probably spank the 911 lol.

89 Turbo-S (1 of 2,011)

my car ran low 13's (stock) with original motor + new tranny. (dad screwed the original)
my uncle has put the car in high 12's with a couple extra lbs. of boost, and took it to 167 mph before it was handed down to me. it also has 109k miles...

i wouldnt exactly say "its not that fast"

the Base 944's were slow as shit. but could still outperform any TL in "driving situations" they were dubbed "the best handling car in the world" when they hit the market. and still kick major ass today in auto-X

and what do you mean the wrong one? i owned a TL..

From what you are saying, it seems like you are putting the 944 and the TL in terms of handling, lol.

the TL can't handle for shit if you ask me. Obviously the 944's handling is much better, however, I did keep up with my buddies 944 in the hills/twisties 2-3 years ago.

Not all TL owners know how to drive their cars like you can bro.

As for the 944 Turbo-S, you're saying that your 247hp porsche ran low 13's? I mean, I'm not doubting you, that is only if you're running some extra lbs. of boost yourself. Stock boost, it can't be done, no way. High 13's, I would believe it.

All-in-all, I'd kill for a 944 turbo-S. It's a great car, looks good, handles great. Afterall, it's a Porsche..

its not a mystery.. its stock specs... high 13's is normal... mid-low is with a good driver and proper weather/elevation etc. and with some extra boost.. its 12's easy. these cars were considered supercar territory back in the day.

when the Turbo S was released.. it was the fastest production car porsche had on the market... (even faster then the 911 of that time)
if you dont believe the times.. you should browse a few porsche forums... people have gotten into 12's with slicks.

dont base your opinion of the 944 on your buddies base model.. .its an entirely different car.
and yes, i was comparing mostly handling.. but the reality is, if you want to compare straight lines... the 944 still wins lol.

i'd be more then happy to line it up with some TL's from here (peanut track OR the strip)

ps. i loved my TL and its comfort. but i dont bring it up in discussion when it comes to my performance side.. its just not on the same level imo.... same with my lude.

we just bought a 86 944 base (like your buddies).. and we plan on dropping an early 90's vette motor in it.

THAT will be speed.

Assuming the OP's TL and 911 engines had the same power, I believe the P has better gearing and you should already know hwy pulling is up to the gearing as well.

Like I mentioned to Sonnick above about gearing. There's an old thread somewhere in the Mustang forum where the guy had a 450rwhp+ GT got walked by a stock P on hwy (not sure what model was the P car).

My buddies B5 S4(s) (stock) can pull high 13s before the mods.

Look like a sick car, but somehow I am not very fond with dif. families combine. I'll stick within the family, but hey it's a unique one and Vett. engine is good for power.

I walked a 2003 carrera by about 3 or 4 car lengths by 80mph about a year ago.. I was very happy with the outcome because I didn't know much about the car and thought I was going to lose.. turns out they only make 320-340bhp don't remember the exact hp but it was lower then what I thought they made

thats why we have an original.. and we have one that will be strictly a track car...

think of it as a kit car. we bought the body for the looks and the motor for performance. that car will not be made to promote the brand... just speed

Man, LS1 engines are ending up in everything nowadays! (BMW, Porsche, ect.) I must say, the LS series motors really kick a--.

To the OP, Im not sure if the 2nd paragraph was a joke, but any 997 Carrera will be too much for even a Supercharged TL to handle. BUT, I could see a base model 996 being close to a supercharged TL. Either way, bet he was surprised to see a TL he could NOT run away from
