2004 TL Reborn
Last fall I posted a message about my new TL that got flooded out during a hurricane on Sept. 28th. Then two days later it broke loose as it was being removed from the flat-bed, rolled 100 yards, and hit a building. It took 3 months to complete all of the repairs. It was not until the 2nd month that they discovered that the car would need a new motor which delayed its return a month. I was happy to get it back about a month ago and so far everything is perfect with no rattles or smells. I'm breaking in the new motor and then am switching to synthetic oil. I even got a new driver's seat cover and so far, no butt prints! I thought some of you would like to see what our airbags look like when they deploy and some other before/after pix. Pardon the quality of the pix, I used a phone camera. Lessons I have learned:
1. Don't let small scratches, dings, rattles, etc. bother you too much. Look at the big picture. We have a fabulous car at a reasonable price that gives you good value for the money spent.
2. If you are ever caught in a complicated insurance situation involving two companies and two claims, make sure that you have someone competent advising you (could be a knowledgable family member or a lawyer or a car mechanic friend). After the flood there were so many claims that my company only did a cursory exam of the car due to being so busy. I wish now that I had made them open the engine up earlier in the process, in which case they may have decided to total the car rather than fix it.
3. Above all, I was able to re-experience that fantastic feeling you get when you first slide behind the wheel of the TL. I guess absence really does make the heart grow fonder!

Believe me, it wasn't hard pulling the bumper off for this shot

So now if you have any problems in the front / dash area, is that covered under the manufacturer's warranty or is it completely covered by the insurance/body shop warranty now? Does your manufacturer's warranty get voided when you get into an accident like that?

It's great that you have your car back, but, IMHO, a flooded car should be totalled. I would have INSISTED. Water intrusion is insideous, and can wreak havoc for years.
Just how much water got inside the car, anyway?

I am amazed that it wasn't totalled and given a "salvage title" for being flooded. I think I would go back and speak with your insurance company about this. If you ever go to sell it and not tell the buyer what had happened, you might be liable down the road.
OMG My other car had minor paint damage repair and it was a chore to sell since I was upfront about it. OUCH

totaled!!!
You've got to be kidding there was nothing there for damage to come close to being totaled...
There are so many people that want to think a year old car is worth 28-29K. When it comes time to fix them they will put 80% of the value into the car. The nose damage was nothing.
