2004 SSM Aspec TL Totalled?
2004 SSM Aspec TL Totalled?
I was in an accident recently, a woman driving a 2004 Honda Accord decided she wanted to make a left turn coming over into my lane across me and directly into the path of my vehicle. I have damage to the front passenger side quarter panel, front passenger side door, front passenger side headlight, the rim and hood are also damaged and it also seems like the rear passenger door. Additionally both air bags deployed and it seems like the side airbag almost deployed or the seatbelt assembly was damaged.
I don't recall how fast I was travelling but it seems like an excessive amount of damage. The officer on the scene said airbags usually deploy at speeds over 35mph. It was a side street through a business area so we may have been doing at least 35mph. Funny thing is all I remember was an impact then sitting there looking stupid in my car with what I thought was smoke all around me. The airbags apparently give off a white powdery residue when they deploy. I thought the car was on fire and got out of it as soon as I could. I don't remember them going off so I guess it hit me and stunned me or it all happened so quickly I don't remember.
I have USAA insurance and so does the other driver. The claims adjuster told me that the car was being towed to a salvage yard and that based on what I told them about the damage over the phone that I should be prepared for the possibility of it being totaled. I was also told that the airbags could cost me about 3K a piece to replace. I'm not sure of the current status of the car as this just happened Thursday evening and I've had a crazy schedule lately. I have about 64K miles on it and I'm concerned it's going to be totaled. I have the ASPEC body kit tinted windows and the rest of the car is stock. Blue book value in my area has the value between 12K to 13K. I love this car and its only in its infancy as far as the engine and transmission and condition the car was in before the accident.
Anybody else have a similar experience?

Doesn't look to bad. I would re-buy if they make it salvage and just get a trusted guy to fix it for you.
Sucks though. So many TLs going down the drain. Seems like there is that one time of the year that everyone starts getting in TL accidents

I honestly don't know if it would be worth it to re-buy. I work at the dealership and I'm adding up some parts you would need that I can tell from the picture. So far; I'm at $4141.67(before taxes). This includes neccessary parts when airbag deploys: Steering wheel SRS module, Passenger SRS module, Dashboard(airbag deploys thru the dash panel, SRS unit(the brain for the system), Crash sensors. From what i can see; you also need a fender, headlight possibly a Upper Tie bar-which is part of the radiator support. Bumper which you can find aftermarket. and a wheel which is the least of your worries...
did you have a passenger too? curious if you didnt and the passenger airbag deployed.
imo it could get totaled. it does show the advances in safety - the fact you didnt even realize the airbags deployed shows how fast these things react to help minimize injury or save lives. glad they did their job for you and that you're ok.

^i believe 04 airbags would go off even if there was no passenger, at least for the front airbag. Side Curtain and seat module might use the OPDS unit; not 100 sure. '06 and up have that "Passenger Air bag OFF" light on dash

it's good to hear that you made it out okay. The car's KBB is probably around the mid to upper 12's or 13's and the damage looks easily like 5K to fix. It might be borderline totaled by insurance depending on where you go and your company. IMO If the car is totalled, get the check for it, buy it back and repair it yourself with some used parts/aftermarket parts that you can pull from a junkyard or here on Azine.
