2004/AT ASpec Brakes

OK, explain this one....
I drive AT (not by choice...but since i dont have money im not complaining)...anyway, when I need to make a rough stop, (ex. hitting 80 and needeing to stop within 150ft cuz of the traffic light, or ex 2, hitting 80, and trying to make a turn you forgot about...) anyway, when you hit the brakes on the AT, it "clicks?", as if the brakes arent strong enough..as the owner of a recent TL, it scares the hell out of me...(are my brakes messed up?) ~~ i also drive a G35 Coupe and the brakes on that G35 are fine! I do the same crap and i stops as if I was driving 10 mph....what's going on?

Are you braking so hard that the ABS is activating? That would feel like a pulsing or clicking. You may want to go to an open area (no cars) and do some hard braking runs to get a feel for when ABS is kicking in and what it feels like. I haven't driven a 5AT A-Spec, but I'm guessing the transition from hard braking to ABS-activation may happen more rapidly.

The Brembos give very fine control over pedal application. I'm sure there will be aftermarket Brembo options before too long for your car.

Yeah that sounds like ABS, which is just stupid because you shouldn't have to brake that hard unless its an emergency. Maybe you should try remembering your turns and not driving 80 in traffic.

Whoa...ease up. Didn't you just kick off a thread asking what a headliner was...

With the performance pads installed, the transition from 'hard braking' to 'ABS activated' may be more sudden and harder to modulate. Practicing will help with controlling this. Also, remember that the TL has brake assist and 'learns' your braking habits. Harder than normal braking can trigger ABS even if it's not 'pedal to the floor' braking. Practice and consistency will help keep this from happening.

Of course, if he has sufficient braking power with his current brakes to invoke the ABS, he won't be stopping any faster unless and until he gets fade such that he can't get into the ABS any more... Just a thought!

Is there really any parallel between me not knowing what a headliner is and this guy going 80 in traffic, forgetting a turn, and then slamming on the brakes?

Just that many of us are here to learn. I'm not going to be judgemental of his examples. There are many legitimate reasons for hard braking. There are reasons why his car may not behave like others. Learning how to sense the transition point from hard braking to lockup, and what ABS feels like and how the car responds when it activates, are important if a car is to be driven hard. Preferably this should be learned in a safe environment so the knowledge and skills are there when needed (e.g. panic stops and entering a turn too fast).

ok so if it IS the ABS, how do I get used to it? The Drive by wire throttle system really screws up my "feeling" of the pedal...although its more comfortable, its hard to "measure" ~ (well i've had the car for less than 3 months, maybe more practice?)
o yea what IS a headliner?
btw GaleForce ur comparing skills to head knowledge thats stupid....no hard feelings though...

I'm not comparing anything. I said there was no parallel.

It is apparently between the inside cieling of your car and the moonroof. It may not be apparent but it will be once it begins to droop.

Drive by wire only affects throttle control, but the TL does have other adaptive braking tricks up its sleeve. Be smooth. You have to learn the amount of braking pressure it takes to brake hard without activating ABS. Be aware that if you slam the brake pedal when braking hard, the TL may sense a panic stop and 'help' you by braking harder and activating ABS. It does learn your habits, so you have to be consistent. A hard stop should be the same as a normal stop, just more pressure. You should know just how much pressure to apply to brake hard without locking up.
