Definitely NOT true. My 2002 TL-P's window sticker (built in 11/01) says: TRANSMISSION: JAPAN. I know, I kept it. Perhaps someone with a 2003 who kept their window sticker can tell us whether their sticker says the same.

Given the drive by wire the TL has, I'd guess it would be easier on transmissions. Even under WOT the shifts are very smooth.
