2000 miles?

I say go for it... with a few guys that trip will go by in no time. Me and 2 of my friends took my 2006 TL down to Dallas from Chicago back in Jan 2007.... we had a great trip and with 3 of us being able to drive the trip went way faster.
Took my TL-S down to Memphis last summer, again a great drive, managed to get just shy of 32mpg as well.
My wife and I drove our H2 down to northern Florida for 4th of July this summer, friends own some major property down there so they have a huge get together every year, since he has a gun range on his property we brought alot of gear with (8 guns and nearly 3000 rounds of ammo) so we had to take the truck.... managed to squeeze a whopping 14.4 mpg out of the H2
With a few people splitting the money for gas its waaay cheaper than flying and having to rent a car once you get there.... unless you are by yourself or pressed for time I say road trip

It's official for me too...I am driving from Chicago to Austin for my wife's parents, then to San Antonio for my brothers wedding and then to Houston for the wife's grandparents. Yahoo maps says its 2,724 miles in 12 days.

WOW now that is a stretch. I drove from Chicago to Cali in my 05 TL and it was allot of fun. From Nebraska all the way to Neveda/Cali border we seriously averaged like 90 to 110mph...roads are clear & desolate. I'm sure you're drive will be different. Just make sure you're up to date on your maintenance, have good tires, properly balance and filled and you'll be just fine.

im a cheapass college student so i dont think i can afford the bra for the car, can i just use clear tape or ductape or any other kind of tape and tape up the front end instead of buying a bra, since this is a one way trip, im moving to cali.

Painter's tape is best for short, one-time trips. I went to DC and back, without any kind of protection, and I have tons more rock chips than I did before. I seriously regret not putting any painter's tape on the front before the drive.

Have driven from NC to San Diego and back in May 08 (via the southern states) and then in May 09 NC to San Francisco and back (via the northern states) Started each day when the sun started to rise. Went to state welcome center and got the hotel discount books. Looked for a good reasonable price motel/hotel from the book. Put the info in the nav and stopped for the evening around 5pm. If we like something we would stay more than one day. Tried to get pictures of my car by the welcome sign in each state we traveled. I had the car serviced before the trip and then stopped to get the oil changed on the way home.

I'd rather take one of my friend's cars than my car on a long-distance trip, not because of the mileage, but because I can't really trust them in my car. I always find tons of odd things in the backseat, and the garbage really pisses me off. Learning to cut down on giving my friends rides, only two of my closest friends are allowed now.
