Ive driven from Portland OR to Killeen TX and back in my TL. Around 2400miles each way. Had it loaded with everything i owned on the way back.

Its worth it. Not once did i get tired of driving, was comfortable the whole way. And was seeing close to 400miles per fill up.

Also, when you are driving you are in the front not cramped in the back of whatever your friends drive. Just split the gas.

that really isn't much. i've driven 1200 in a day. point of having a car is to drive. not to leave it parked.

I would take a flight than driving, cuz 1,000 miles between stopping breaks that's a long drive, and considering after having fun for a week having to drive back? Nah... seriously save time and spend it in Texas by flying...

Oil Change
Make Sure Air filter is clean
Tires prop inflated
Washer fluid

etc etc... just the normal maintenance stuff that should always be done.

If you have AAA get a Trip Tik (unless you have navi) before you go. Mine helped me miss a bunch of construction.

I've driven my car for 32k miles a year right now, but I'm not scared at all on how it drives, or afraid the mileage will get high (besides maintenance cost). Where you coming to in Texas? You should come to the Houston/Dallas meets!

Either buy a bra or tape up the front of your car. Possible to get many rock chips and dead insects.

I'm the original owner of my 05 TL and I remember driving it as little as possible during the first couple years of ownership. As a matter of fact, as of Jan 2008 my TL only had 15k miles....and now 23 months later, its almost at 52k miles I have taken it on several road trips, I figure I am paying over $600 for it, might as well drive it as someone else mentioned

I regret not driving more when I first bought since it was basically a new model design back then, now it seems like there are tons of 3G TLs around. My recommendation would by to drive it as much as possible, if next months your friends ask you to drive it to Florida..heck say yes (provided they pay for the gas...lol)

I always tried to avoid putting a lot of miles on my cars because I was afraid it would highly affect the resale value. After trading a few cars with really low miles and getting sh*t for them I thought enough was enough, especially since I have always had a $500+ monthly payment on my cars.

Exactly. I used to drive my 03 Maxima and just leave my TL parked 4 days out of the week, now I leave my Maxima parked and drive my TL 5 days out of the week. I'm from southern CA and so far its been to CA- San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Arizona, its also been to Mexico lol. Next we plan on taking it to Vegas and one of these days maybe a road trip to Niagara Falls.

Oh yeah I read someone elses post about how comfortable of a road trip car it is and couldn't agree more....you will honestly never feel the need to stop at a rest stop.

The car is a great handling car, but I guess I'm getting old as I feel the TL seats are just too hard. Even our modified RX7 Turbo is more comfortable when driving for extended periods of time. I could spend all day in our 2008 knock around car, but even a 2 1/2 hr trip to AC in the TL is a challenge.

Depends how much you like your friends? If you care a lot about them then go for it.

Exactly!!! Get out and enjoy. I have driven across this county many times. Usually in a piece of junk. It would be nice to drive a TL.

you think these seats are hard, try bmw 5 series. those things are like cement bricks!

road trips are fun for about the first day, but then when you're in the middle of nowhere and wish you were just there already it gets a little annoying. but with friends should be fun - for a little longer anyway

Agreed! Drive! I live in Chicago & took my 01 TL to Texas twice, my 05 TL to San Francisco & back in about 10 days & my 08 Type-S has been to Miami, Branson, Iowa multiple times & soon will be going to Jackson Hole Wyoming this winter & Texas again Spring 2010. The TLs ride like a dream on the highway, great gas mileage & power. Get your friends to pay for the gas & a nice detail job when you get back. Have fun!

Why own a car if you're not gonna drive it? I hate it when people just let there cars sit. My father in law does that. He has a Yukon and a Oldsmobile. He drives the Olds 90% of the time cause he doesn't want to put the miles on the yukon

Most of the chips on my car have been driving on 95 from NC to NJ and back. The car managed to fair better on my 3 cross-country road trips. I made sure it had a good coat of wax on it and then had it washed numerous times to get rid of the dead bugs.
