By the way a guilty plea to a moving violation will generally be transmitted to your insurance company, unless you get lucky.

Remind the officer he doesnt have a law degree.

I think he was referring to non-moving violations with that statement.

I asked the cop if I could just pay the d@mn ticket, and he said NO. He said I have to go to court.

You're right, I re-read it and realized I misread it!

Yup, they can force you to go to court, which is what they did.

Have you decided how you are going to deal with this yet?

Nothing an officer of the law hates worse then tints on a vehicle, especially when you cant see the occupants.
I have to stop vehicles at three in the morning, because I see the vehicle doing illegal activites, such as going through red lights at high speed, weaving all over the road etc. Then its my job to approach vehicle to speak with occupant.
When the vehicle is tinted, I dont know how many occupants are in the car, movement in the car, basically I am putting my own life and safety on the line, to get some moron off the road, so he doesnt kill or injure an innocent person with his 3000 pound instrument of death.
This could be your parents, siblings, wife, kids, who get hurt by this person.
You should think about this when and if you get stopped by an officer.
In some states, having illegal tints is a MOVING violation and not like a parking ticket.
I am not even allowed to unholster my weapon when doing a car stop, and I am not supposed to even suppossed to have my hand on my weapon,
For you wise guys, who are always ranting on police officers stopping them for dark illegal tints, I would love for you to come along with me one night, and do one car stop, and then see how you feel about tints.
You show me completely dark tints that are so black to be like a mirror, and ninty nine per cent of the time, It will be a person who does not obey vehicular laws. Almost always a young male between 17 and 30. I think sometime in their late twenties, they either dont have licenses, are dead from driving accidents, or have grown up. LOL

Much regards

Well, yeah. I've decided what I'm going to do. I'll put the license plate on the lower grill, tie it up with something and take pics. Also, I cleaned the windows from inside and the fronts became a little lighter than before. I took pics. I'll post them here so u can see. They are only 35% not dark at all. Did u guys know how many cars past by us with limo style tints (front and back) while he was checking out my front windows. I told him about it and he said "you are the lucky one."

I got ur point. My front windows are ONLY 35% and they are not as dark as some limo style tints. If you have seen 35% u know what I'm talking about. Even that cop, who gave me the ticket, was not sure because he made me rolling my window 2 times up and down.

I was beginning to think that I was the only one on this forum that didn't like tints. The police officer quoted above doesn't like them because they make his job much more difficult. I don't like them because I think they look, well, silly.

Oh boy I bet I'm going to get flamed on this one so I better get some better reasons down.

Anyone else besides me and the police officer?
  • Really dark tints interfere with your ability to see out, especially at night.
  • Now this one is just my opinion, but when I see any car with dark tints I think, "oooh, that person thinks they're a biiiig movie star!"
  • Why do something to your car that is just asking for a ticket?
  • A TL is not a limo, why dress it up like one?

Don't get me wrong, if you want to get tint on your car, that's entirely up to you. It's just not something I'd do. Does anyone else feel this way, other than the nice police officer?

I agree, my cousin is a cop in Chicago and that is exactly what she told me. That is why I suggested the OP chose his battles. I have a front plate even if it's ugly on the car. It gets really hot where I live (95-115) so the tints help keep it a little cooler. My fronts are 35%, still illegal but you can see outlines from outside at least during the day. The 20% back windows are legal here and you can't see jack from the outside at night. A few bad experiences have taught me to be careful if stopped, especially at night. Again, if I get a ticket it will just be payed and tints removed if required but then put back on.

I agree with your first point. I was going to tint my front windows because you are allowed to in Oregon, but I really cant see anything (at least not as clear as I would like.) I have no problem with front tint laws.

Hard to argue that tint does not look good though.

So let me understand....
1) your tint violates the law in the state in which your car is registered
2)your state requires a license plate on the front of the car and you don't have one.

Seems like you knew it was illegal too. Sounds to me like you either have to comply or risk getting tagged again later. Simple as that.

I understand that you don't want to put holes in the bumper and you like the tint but don't but that's the risks you took.

I'm not trying to be a prick. It just seems pretty straight forward; You make yourself an obvious target. If that increases the likelihood of you being on the side of the road getting a ticket as I whiz by then I guess I'm OK with it.

I wouldn't. They won't give a shit about that and it might even make them want to witness your drilling holes in it even more.

Tinted in MO

I live in MO. I got my fronts tinted to 35% and 15% on the rear windows which is legal in MO. I still got pulled over but was lucky that the cop had equipment that could measure the tint level. The fronts came out to 31%, Phew!

I understand cops not liking tints hence they have rules on tinting the front windows. Next time I get pulled over I am going to roll down the left side windows so that cop can see inside.

^ - I think the court is the only one who can give you the correct answer. That would be fine with me, but my opinion doesn't count.

He didn't even know what car was it. Anyway, any guess about the second ticket?????? My front RJ's bumper has no license plate. The way it is, looks perfect. If I make holes and put the plate on will make it . Now I have to go to court on Monday the 30th.
People, I heed help!!! Let me know what should I do before and when I ge there on Monday.

Probably not. Cops arent judges, just enforcers. Unless you can carry a copy of that statues that say you are not violating anything. Even then they're likely to ticket and let the courts settle it.
