I havent even had my car for 2 mos and today I went to my car after my son's football practice and a rock chip(which I never knew happened) spread its winds and made a 18 inch crack through the windshield......unfreakinbelievable!!!

 

Take a look at some of the real old threads.. this was a problem for a number of people...

Mine occured in about 4 days.. and you could not see a rock chip.. they brought out a hand held microscope and looked at the crack where it looked like an inch wide... they found a 'stone chip'... said it was not covered by warranty...

Fortunately, I've heard that most car insurance companies will replace the front windshield for free. As part of their comprehensive coverage or something.

Same happened here. Call your insurance. The windshield replacement is about $600. Getting it changed out is actually quite easy and then it's like new again. Make sure to get the Honda glass though, not a generic.

 

this is my 2nd windshield in 6 months

 

i am going through this now too. A few weeks ago BAM!!! I looked at my windshield...nothing. I come out to go to work in the morning. 8 INCH CRACK up the windhield. Left work 10 hours later...the cracked turned left 6 inches and started heading north again. Come out to go to work in the morning...6 inches more north. I thought it finally stopped. NOPE a few days later it was really hot out...18 inches across the windhield LOL

As far as insurance. My regular COMP coverage doesn't cover it. I added the glass coverage for $3+/6mo.

Prices are $250-850. PPG - Honda OE.

I think the glass alone from acuraoemparts.com is @ $450.

I had my car for 3 weeks before this happened to me. Glass replacement coverage differs from state to state. I had 100% coverage by default when I lived in MA. But now that I'm in NJ I had to shell out $625 to get the thing fixed (came to $500 after my deductible).

This is a very disappointing flaw in this car. With all of the stories from you guys, and my own experience, I expect I'll be averaging $500/year for new windshields.

 

My wife bascally works out of her car, so we live with rock chips and cracked windshields. This last time she got a good chip that was just starting to crack. I went and bought one of this repair kits right away. I followed the instructions, and now I can't even see the chip anymore and no cracking. The kit was like $12 and was totally worth it. I was very impressed with it. I need to pickup another to keep at the house so I can repair the next one as soon as it happens.

 

Where did you get the repair kit and what was it called?

 

my windshield cracked at 4 months. there's a very small chip right under one of the wipers, hard to imagine how a rock would hit there. the crack grew to a quite big "?" shape.

 

A rock chipped my windshield the other day coming back from class, only had the car about 2 months. Its pretty small though so I can live with it, until it starts spreadin out...
