>>>>>> 19" Tire Size?<<<<<<<
I am in a pickle. I am going to purchase my wheels this week and I am not sure what to go with. The 235/35/19 or the 245/35/19. I have been told that the 235 is as close as the stock wheel diameter as I am going to get but is super thin. The 245 has a taller side wall but is about a ½ to ¾ inches taller. Would that have any affect on my speedometer gauges and can I have a 1” drop without any rubbing, or having to do any mods (i.e... rolling fender walls)? Any Info Helps.

IMO going from a 235/40-18 to a 245/35-19 is pretty ridiculous. You're going to have the same look. The 245/35 actually has a slightly larger sidewall than the 235/40. If you're going for the look of a 19" wheel, it will be lost. Stick with the 235/35-19 and deal with the slight ride penalty.
Once again, IMO.

I ordered 19x8.5 ADR Sterlings with 245/35-19s. They're 1/2 inch taller than the OEM 17's which translates to 1.7% slow (going 61MPH when speedo reads 60). With the taller tire it gives the car a lowered look.
235's while recommended for 8.5" width looks retarded both because of the crowned cross section and because of the rubberband look. After seeing both ON THE CAR I went with 245's. They look pissed.
I simply disagree with a previous poster. 235/35 is just too short of sidewall for a 19" diameter wheel...the tire, on my car at least looked simply rediculous. Not only because of the remaining fender gap (since my car isn't lowered, but it just looked like a rubberband around the giant chrome rim. The 1/4" of extra sidewall (3-1/2" vs 3-1/4") made a big differance in appearance.
Personally, you should get a test fitting and make your decision, but I'm guessing based on my experience that you'll be more satisfied with the 245/35...both in appearance and ride quality...and 1 MPH difference from 17" OEM at 60MPH isn't crap.

You can use this tire calc to compare wheel and tire combos...

The difference between 245/35-19 and OEM is not enough to justify the horrid looks, bad ride and risk to the rim from narrow tires.
And given the difference obviously isn't an issue with the 245, it comes down to personal preference which can only be determined by clear photos or a test fit (which I used for choosing between the 235 and 245).

Thanks Skeedatl, Whould you happen to have any pic's? Is your car lowered? One dealer here said that they went with the 245/35/19 on a demo TL w/ a 1" comptech drop and they had to cut out some of the plastic in the rear wheel well where the mud guards would attach because the tires rubbed. I am also thinking about lowering. Any advise?

No...wheels are on order. They didn't have all 4 in stock, they are backordered 4 weeks but they think they will come in sooner. The car is stock height. My car with the 245/35's looked lower on their own because the 245's are 1/2" higher than OEM and the gap was even. To me it was more important to have an even gap rather than try to eliminate more gap at the top. Plus I frequently load up my car with luggage and people so I didn't want to risk cutting a tire.

I would agree with going 245/35. I had 255/35/20 and switched to 245/35/20 on my 5 and you could tell there is a harsher feel on broken pavement with the 245's. So the 245/35/19's should take a little edge off the ride harshness. By the way, are you getting these rims/tires from a local dealer? I too live in Sac and need some tires for my S2K.

I have 245/35-19 and they look damn good to me. As a matter of fact I had 235's and sold them because it was like riding on rubber bands it's just too thin IMO. I'm not thinking about dropping so I couldn't say anything about that part. Good luck.

I am too interesting in getting some 19's for my TL and contemplating whether to go w/245 or 235 w/35series tires. I was thinking of 19x9 wheels or 19x8.5. I want to lower the car too and I don't want to have any problems rubbing. Which combination is best. I don't mind the rough ride as long as it looks really good. Any suggesting or pics would be great to see the difference btw 245 and 235 w/35 series tires on a 19inch rim.
Thx dudes!!

Unless my math is way bad the 245/35 have a smaller sidewall expose than the 235/40. 35% of 245 is 85.75 and 40% of 235 is 94mm so if you want the "skinnier" sidewall go with the 245 if you want the "wider" or "taller" sidewall go with the 235. The tire wont be as wide from side to side obviously but the 235 will be a little bit taller (having more sidewall and same rim dimension) meaning more influence on speedometer readings and fit in the wheel well if that is a problem and doesnt sound like it is. Get some pix up you guys. I am suffering with rims and tires right now too. My wife says its a guy thing. Anal retentive guy thing for sure. Have fun. Life is short. j
