Cool To 18" or not to 18"?

I finally put the deposit down on a red/ebony/w nav. I am considering the 18" wheels, but I have concerns about changes in the ride. Any thoughts?

Drove 17s and 18s back-to-back at a dealer this week (was considering the same thing).

18s definitely provide a bit more feedback and what feels like a somewhat stiffer ride. Whether or not that's a good thing is a matter of personal preference.

Road noise is increased in the 18s. With Acura touting 5mm thickness in glass to reduce wind/ambient noise, audible feedback from the tires is magnified (highway expansion joints).

It's a trade-off...as so many things are....

Question

Hacksaw -

Since you have the 18"s, I have a couple of questions....

1. What differences could you discern between the two?
2. Why did you choose 18"s?
3. What expectations do you have for all weather behavior in (the sunny state of) Oregon?

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

The 18's will and do grip the road much better. You'll have more feedback on road conditions but I find that the faster I go, it really smooths out. My primary reason for chossing the 18" was for the look. With DPG, the wheels are a great accent. I put Toyo Proxies which have the all-season tread on them. They work great in wet weather as well as dry. We had a rare snow storm last week and I had to drive across town in it. Towards the end of the trip, the snow was beginning to accumulate on the roads. The car handles beautifully in slush and light snow covered roads.

Hacksaw-

I am moving from a 4x4 truck to the TL. Is the difference in ride enough that I will notice it from one test drive?

Living in Seattle the all weather traction is important. Do you know if the Yokohama tires that Acura sells with the 18's are sufficient.

I checked out your gallery those 18's do look sweet with the green. Happy Thanksgiving.

I got the 18s for the looks and more sporty ride. Plus it won't look like every other TL on the road.
