1500kms later, still getting 13L/100km in Canada
Hi guys,
I've got 1500kms (932miles) on my TL now. I've been resetting the trip computer with every fill up and I'm still averaging 13L/100km (18mpg). I do about 70% highway mileage and 30% stop and go in the city. I don't think the AC is coming on since it's pretty cold here in Montreal already. Is this normal? Should I be expecting somewhere closer to 22 or 23mpg by now? Please let me know. Thanks!

I'm living in montreal also and notice the same thing aroud 12 liters per 100 km.
On highways at a steady speed of 115 kmh the trip computer said 8 liters/100 km

Could you guys please tell me how much mileage you have on your cars... I'm hoping it's just that my engine is still tight from being new...

Well, couple of reasons... first of all, I don't want to spend a fortune on gas considering the price it's at these days... and secondly, I don't want to burn more gas than I really need to for environmental reasons. I know, I'm not VERY environmentally friendly buying a V6, but it is a ULEV car, and I just want to make sure the gas mileage I'm getting is within reason.

Well, I was expecting at least the gas mileage that everyone else is getting... but I guess I will get there once I have some more miles on my car.

My 04 TL now has just over 10,000 kms on it and one oil change. On the highway, at around 120 kms or so will be about 8L/100kms. In the city, 100% with very bad stop and go, will get about 13 to 14 kms. Overall I do believe this is better then I got on my 00TL. I notice quite a difference if I've been driving aggressively as one would expect.

Like everyone here has said, just enjoy your car and not worry too much about the fuel economy. It all depends on your driving habits.

Hi Guys from Montreal.... just got back a couple of weeks ago from a short vacation up there..... it was a bit cold for a Texas guy, but very nice.
What might be killing your mileage is that your freeways were stop and go when I was driving.... and you have some hills to go up and down....
Down here in Houston, the highest 'hill' is the freeway overpass!!
Also, drove to Mt. Tremblanc (sp?)..... decided to drive the back roads back and was thinking it would be GREAT to have my TL on the twisties..... then what do I see, a blue TL going the other way!!!
Hope you get better gas mileage.. it is a great car. And I can understand your concern as your gas prices are HIGH...

I have 1800 km on my '04 tl and have been averaging 12L/100 km (23 mpg) in city driving and 8L/100 km (35 mpg) on a highway trip. There are really no traffic jams in my city (Saskatoon) and my driving has not been aggressive yet. This gas mileage is 30% better than my last car ('97 BMW 5401) so I should save about $750/yr on gas purchases alone. (Don't get me started on $$$ for BMW repairs).

Fuel consumption in Montreal
Hi there,
During summer, I was doing about 10-11L/100km (on the south shore cities..), and around 8L/100km on highway (110-140km/h range)...but now that it's getting cold, it goes up to around 12L/100km these days...I'm burning more idle as windows are now freezing in the moring or letting the engine run when waiting for a shop stop.

Hi guys,
For me it ranges between 11 and 14 L per 100km;
One thing you have to verify is the average speed shown on the computer screen for the period in question... if you're running an average of 50-60 km/hour or above then good chance you're getting 10-12 L per 100km. However if you're running an average of 40km/hour or lower then good chance you're doing 12-14 L per 100km.
Also it all depends how high and often you're reving the motor espetially in the sportshift mode.
But overall you guys are right the consumption is quite high ... then again it's a 270HP monster ...

International conversion
I have been averaging 18 mpg per tank in mixed driving. I have 2,000 miles on my TL.
On a recent road trip to Tampa, I averaged 29 mpg. That was mostly 80 mph Interstate driving with some local mileage mixed in.

I've got 2,800 miles on my car.
I'm getting roughly 22MPG with a roughly 60/40 highway/city driving split, and I'm not that easy on the throttle.
All told, I'm fine with the fuel mileage. It's better than the '93 Camry V6 it replaced and around the same as that of my '99 Solara.
Regards,
