14k Miles less than 1 year, too much?

My 1 year anniversary date for my 2006 TL will be in August and I'm already a little over 14,000 miles. I don't really plan to sell my car for a while, at least 5-7 years and I could very well go for 10 years if I get married and we have 2 cars. So, if I'm not really worried about resale value, should I just be driving the hell out of this car? I'm not the type that tries to preserve a car's mileage just so I can sell it higher and have someone else benefit from the low mileage. Right now, I try to avoid doing too many 800-1000 mile roundtrips. What is everyone else's plan for their cars?

Cars nowadays are built to last. I would say drive it w/o worrying on mileage. If you do consider to keep it for the length of time stated in your post I would recommend getting an extended warranty for safe measures. It will also help with resale value when and if it comes to that point.

I have 28K miles in one year. I drive 110 miles roundtrip for work 5 days a week. This is the reason I bought a Honda product. Fuel economy (30mpg at 75mph) and not having to worry about how fast I hit 100K miles. I take great care of the car (looks brand new) and do regular maintenance.

A guy I work with has a '98 TL. Just hit 225K miles. Only major maintenance was the timing belt which he did at 150K miles.

My 97 accord was approaching 200k before I got the TL. LIke you said, basic maintenance and timing belt was all I did. Knock on wood, but I've always had good luck to not have those out of the ordinary problems. I don't live in extremely hot or cold weather, I do a 50mile/day commute, I'm confident the TL will get up to 200k w/ no major problems.

I drive about 1K a month on average, but if I was going to keep it as long as YOU are saying, I would never worry about that! Drive it til the damn doors fall off! Just stay on top of everything that can be fixed warranty-wise, cuz once that's gone you're on your own!

Even though I have 100K warranty, I plan to trade mine in 2011 for that new drug of choice!!

If you purchase the car instead of lease, than you shouldn't worry about milelage if your planning to keep the car and passing it down to kids or family.

Regular maintence will go a long way..had a 00 Accord with 190K miles and it ran like it was brand new! ..but i had to give it up to my nephew.

I think you're fine. Mine is less than 3.5 years old, and I have about 46,000 miles on it. I plan on keeping mine until at least 150,000 miles. Just keep up with the scheduled maintenance.

Bought my '06 with 16 miles on it in July of '06. As of today, a few weeks short of 1 year with the car, 14100 miles. Absolutely no major problems, 100% reliable. Only issues are a couple of intermittent rattles, and some scratched tint (which the dealer will fix for free for as long as I own the car, since they're the ones who tinted it). I plan on keeping it for at least 5 more years (so I can enjoy at least one year without a car payment )

Come out to the west coast and 1500 miles a month is considered very little mileage
100-150 mile r/t commutes are the norm and a weekend to anywhere is 500 miles
Enjoy your fine ride and drive it- the car would much rather be driven than parked

My 06 TL was bought last year in September and now has 4500 miles. I only drive on weekends for fun, running small errands or just for the heck of it. If you really need to put on mileage because of work or other needs, the higher the mileage means the more you are getting out of the TL per mile for the price you paid. Since TL has very good mileage on the hwy, you definitely are getting the most bang for your bucks by driving it.

Drive it, you paid for it, enjoy it and who cares about the next sap that'll own it?

FWIW - my '06 is the first car I have "negative mileage" on... Usually I end up buying like an '07 model in like September of '06, so by the time it's actually '07 on the calendar, I've already got like 4-5000 miles on it. Then I drive a normal 12-15000/year and well by the end of 2007 I have like 20000 miles, about 8000 more than the "standard."

With my '06 TL, I bought it on 12/30/06, now at the end of June '07 I have 5500 miles on it when it should have like 18000 miles on it, according to the "standards."

I think this will be my new policy going forward when buying new vehicles, I'm just going to wait until the end of the model year and see what's available.

Hi Verse101: I purchased my 2005 TL on November 24, 2004 and I have just amassed (sp?) 8,300 total miles.
I drive it every day to work 5 miles each way, and I also drive it in the winter with 4 studded tires and ADR alloy wheels.
I was going to purchase a 08 TL Types S in April of 2008, but now I'm leaning on waiting for the 2009 TL Type S if AWD is available.
My wife say's I baby my baby too much !, but that's only because I rarely drive it on the weekend. We use her 05 Honda Odyssey EX-L Redrock Pearl/Ivory for that.
Hopefully if everything works out well, I'll get a premium for trade in, along ith a GREAT price for the newby TL.
I'm going to be purchasing the newby from the same dealer Acura Of Lynnwood in WA state where I bought my 05.

I put 18-20k miles on my cars a year. 14k is nothing. If you bought the car, drive it and enjoy it!

Learned the following lesson the hard way (twice in a row). DON'T CARRY INSURANCE other than the manatory liabilty insurance.

My wife and I "lost" two great cars because we were not aware of this simple fact. My wife had a mild fenderbender in her 1993 Acura Legend 4-door, and the insurance company totalled it. A month later, my wife has another mild fenderbender in my 1991 Acura Legend 2-door. Again, the insurance company totalled it too. So, I now have a '06 TL and the wife has an '03 RL. But, back to the lesson.

I have now learned the lesson. STOP carrying insurance (other than liabilty) after the blue book drops to a certain level. Take that money that you had been paying for insurance and save the money. This way, when you have a fender bender, YOU will have the funds to fix it. If you rely on the insurance company, they will FORCE you to turn-in the car (totalled). If you don't agree, you loss YOUR money that you had been paying into the insurance company.

You may have had 2 other options (too late now):
1) Fix it yourself, don't go through with the claim.
2) Buy it back from the insurance company after the claim (now has totaled title, could be a problem).

That is the problem - you will forfeit/loss the money you paid in to the insurance company.

I just hit 39K after 21 months. so I'm on a pace to average probably 22K per year.

I'll keep the car at least for 5 years.

I dont have a TL but I've got 19k in 15 months. Most ever I've put on a car. Yes, I do think about whether its too many miles. However every Honda/Acura forum I've ever been on has stories about this brand of car lasting forever so that eases my mind. As you can tell this is my first Honda product and I've never owned a car past 105k.

This car has to last over that, I've never paid this much for wheels and I want my money's worth.

IMHO- drive it. Unless you leased it and have a milage cap on the car. I traded a '97 Honda Civic with 345,000 as the down for the TL. I go 165 miles round trip 4 days a week and the TL makes the drive FUN...
BTW, I got the TL fatory certified with 33K miles in Feb '07, purchased the extended warrantee to 100K/yr.2012 and have 40K on it now

Don't even sweat 14k miles. Honda/Acura are famous for taking on lots of miles without any trouble at all. That was a big infuence on why I bought a TL. I've put on 6,200 miles in 3 months and 2 weeks. And that's with using the wife's car for 3 weeks so I can keep the miles down. I gave up on that already. Why stop the inevitable...

ps - My XM expired two weeks ago, and I don't miss it one bit. Didn't even notice until yesterday.

If you're planning on keeping it 5-7 years, why worry about mileage? Its not going to fall apart in that time, so drive it as much as you want.

I also bought my TL 12/30/06 and now its at 7000 mi mark. My daily commute is about 50 miles.

You really have to do your own math, it is not OK to drive the car as much so it hits 200k mi when 5 yrs old...when 10 yrs old this is fine. No one is keeping their cars forever despite of what they say. It does make sense to keep the miles in check on a newer and pricey car such as TL. It would be more economical to run a less expensive car for high commutes...If you're driving 30K mi/year+ then get a used 4 cyl daily driver for cash, have only liability coverage for it, and run the crap out of that rather than a TL.

I have 34k miles in 18 months on a lease that I intend to buy at the end (has to do with cap car allowance from work of $350/mo.).

Drive it like you stole it!

The say you have to count the year of your last tranny or engine overhaul as your "year of service"!

if your that worried about the miles. buy another gauge cluster and swap it out. run the miles on there, then swap your original cluster when your getting safety check or anything that has to do with having them record your mileage, then swap it back and rack up the miles on the cluster you bought.

Quick Reply: 14k Miles less than 1 year, too much?
