A-110(a): DIY Guide to replacing 3rd & 4th gear pressure switch for 3G TL (2004-2006)
#563
I ordered 28610-RAY-003 and 28600-RAY-003. They shipped
28610-RAY-013 and 28600-RAY-013 to me today. I checked these 2 new parts on their website, but they do not exist.
Are these the right ones for the job? Does anybody know? I just wanted to make sure before I start working on the car tomorrow.

dumb question I suppose, but is there no 2nd gear switch? only 3rd and 4th? the part numbers given above in post 563, are actually the same as for an 09 RDX trans.

hi all,
I noticed my Acura (2006 TL 6 cyl with automatic trans) lurching (once each time) while going uphill with cruise control on.
Then my wife felt it lurching while driving I-80 over the Sierra Nevada from Sacramento to Reno. She does NOT use cruise control.
I noticed several posts about the 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches needing replacement.
Does this sound like that pressure switch problem?
The dipstick says there is transmission fluid.
I know it's about time to replace the spark plugs, but it doesn't seem like a spark plug problem to me.
What do you think?
(PS: the weather here has been in the high 90's to low 100's)

Finally had the time to change out the 3rd and 4th pressure switches. Thank you for the DIY! It made the work much easier. Since the car was lifted I might as well change out the transmission fluid.
Gave a test drive and OMG, shifting from 2nd ->3rd->4th was SO smooth. It basically felt I was driving a brand new TL.

I'm currently running Redline D4 ATF's in the transmission.

I did my first 1x3 (Redline D4) last week and ordered the switches. One came yesterday and the other should arrive Monday. I ordered the 28600 p7w 003, but I was sent 28600 p7w 013.
It looks the same (brown) as the 003 pictured, but I just wanted to ask here to make sure it's the correct part.
My 04 TL has 77,700 miles and shifts perfectly, just doing preventative maintenance...
Is 28600-P7W-003 = 28600-P7W-013 ???
Thanks!

The technical pressure specs for these switches is taken from the following link. The diagram/ pics of the old/new comparison is *stolen* from someone on this site - unfortunately I lost the link and cannot give credit - but they deserve due credit for the info.
The link can be used to search for other part numbers.

I changed the 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches this weekend. I had to remove the battery and come in from above to get #4, because I didn't know how to unhook the wheel well cover at the top and didn't want to break it. Now I am wanting to change the fluid.
Question: if I do the change 3 quarts at a time, over a month, will it be OK to add the Redline fluid to the original transmission fluid?

CONFUSED - you stated above that you have a 2004 TL, and I wonder if you checked with a dealer for the correct part numbers. The part number you have listed just above, is not the same as the part numbers others (and I) have listed for a 2004-2006 TL. So, I have to wonder why you are using different part numbers than others are using, and have listed in this thread?

Hey guys, just picked up an '07 type-S with 94k miles on it. I noticed the downshifts are a little rough when coming to a stop, but otherwise it shifts smoothly through all of the gears and holds them well even when I use the paddle shifters.
My question is which transmission fluid should I use? DW1, Redline? I would like to change it out a few times over the next month. With the higher mileage should I use anything else? This is an older thread so I figured I would ask for updated info since I will be swapping out the sensors and the fluid now. Thanks

I installed them yesterday in like 15 minutes, but I honestly cannot feel any difference while driving the car. It feels the same...I guess that's a good thing.
I'm wondering how such a simple little part can fail in the first place. Is it the electronic sensor, or the actual valve orifice gets clogged? If the latter, then would it be possible to do a thorough cleaning with some contact cleaner and re-install?...Just thinking out loud...

Hence the reason for my original post. The parts numbers were changed for some reason. That link states that the parts I have are the same, although the numbers are different. As to why I couldn't say. I verified same specs and pressure ratings (via the link provided)...One was beige/brown, one was black...

OE No: 28600-P7W-013
Replaces: 28600-P7W-003
but I do not think that they are the same and CORRECT as posted by others and myself for an 2004 TL:
3rd Gear Switch

28610-ray-003
new#:
28610-ray-013

again, did you verify your part numbers with a dealer? why are your part numbers different from what others are using? just wondering.
If you feel you have the correct part numbers, then OK, its your car.

The *clicker* is normally curved one direction, then under pressure pops curved the other direction. ) versus (
And I have asked twice that you verify your part numbers, because I think that they are *wrong*, and probably have a different pressure specification than the *correct* part numbers.
But its your car, and your responsibility to check the numbers - they have been given in writing in post #563 as pointed out more than once.
#587
These seem to be part numbers for a 2nd gen TL, NOT for a 3rd gen TL. But owners must check the numbers for their own vehicle. Don't get confused by what is posted online, but check and verify the correct part numbers for yourself, preferably at a dealer parts counter, using your VIN.

Materials needed:
x1 3rd Gear Pressure Switch (28600-P7Z-003)
x1 4th Gear Pressure Switch (28600-P7W-003
x1 3rd Gear Pressure Switch (28600-P7Z-003)
x1 4th Gear Pressure Switch (28600-P7W-003
I received the 28600-P7Z-003. I also received the 28600-P7W-013...
The link (which you provided) confirmed that the parts are the same...
So I don't really understand your confusion? Is the original #1 post providing the wrong part numbers? That's what I was going by...
I will call the dealer tomorrow and verify the are the same. I have already driven 150 miles with the new switches and it feels perfect like new...Hopefully they are the right ones....

Why can't I edit the post? Here is the post that also helped me determine I have the correct 4th gear switch...
https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...8&postcount=14
Also don't know if I matters, but I have an early 04 that was also part of the 2nd gear oil jet recall...
(Still plan to call the stealer tomorrow though...)

The switches fail across all Acura models, according to the parts person, so why not in your 2G TL? the switches fail from use (wear), heat, poor fluid, etc. Read all of this thread, as well as other similar threads.

I replaced my switches a couple of weeks ago in my 08 TL. I'm a new owner and noticed some shifting issues after purchasing the car with 47K miles on it. It took me a little longer than the average stated in the thread to complete the work, but it wasn't too bad. I will be able to do it faster the next time. There was a noticeable improvement in shifting performance after changing the switches and transmission fluid. I couldn't have done it without the information and photos in this thread. Thanks to all of the users for compiling.
The one issue I had during the changing of the transmission fluid was getting out the fill plug. I underestimated how tight that plug was put in: I put a 12-pt 17mm socket on the plug rather than a 6 pt and stripped it so I couldn't remove it. I had to fashion a custom funnel with a small hose to refill through the dipstick tube. It took a long time for 4 quarts of fluid to go through that little hose, but it worked out. Any recommendations on how to get that stripped fill plug out?

The problem is not the bolt - its not that tight. The aluminum sealing washer has galled/ cold welded both to the fill bolt and the trans case. Next time, lube the washer with ATF, then use 80% of the standard toque specified. Also use a new washer each time, for optimal feel and torque. The washer will crush, and an old washer is already crushed, so the fill bolt won't *turn-down* as nicely.
