1 week old car got keyed

I never really expected my TL to get keyed. I do park at the very end spot in a parking lot and kept it clean. Jealous people really suck. Does anyone know if this is repairable with spot treatment? I went to the dealer and they said to get the whole door repainted because of that lil thing, but they dont do body work and referred me to body shop.

That's a small gash, I might try some matching paint from your dealer.

Man touch up paint won't do the trick... for it to look good as new matching you will porb needed to get sanded down and repainted... if you simply put touch up paint it won't fill the scratch....

Same shit happen to my type s fender 2nd week I had it I got some rubbing compound smoothed out the area real nice and got a 2 sided touch up paint pen from paintscratch.com stock color on one side clear coat on the other... doesn't look good as new but it makes it so it isn't an eye sore

Well,

If I'm not mistaken your key scratch is only 5mm long as in a 1/4 of an inch.. Sure that sucks but I don't think I would risk getting the entire door painted for that. I guarantee if it was mine a little touch up color and clear coat could fill, then wet-sand, then buff that to look near unnoticeable.

Now, obviously pictures don't always do justice so don't take my suggestion the wrong way. Many times however something small like this can turn into a much bigger eyesore if you go the repaint direction - the main reason I haven't had anyone repaint my mismatched WDP bumpers yet.... Figured I will wait till they really need it etc.. Bottom line, go the touch-up route and see if you can live with it. You can always paint the door..

Many many years back when I drove my new car to HS for the first time it was keyed from wheel well to wheel well on the passenger side. I even found out which jealous bastard it was but couldn't prove it - thus refrained from possibly kicking the ass of an innocent idiot...

Best of luck, sorry for your damage and feel your pain.

really sux man ... if you have the money i would go would a door repaint just because its such a new car and the paint will match ... but if u dont wanna paint the whole door then i guess the only other option you have is touch up pen

How long you plan on keeping the car for? If you don't plan on keeping it for too long, try touch up paint since the length of the scratch is pretty short. However, if you plan on keeping the car as long as it runs, don't use touch up paint. It will come off. It happened to my old Accord. So, if you plan on keeping your car for long, read further.

Although the scratch is very short, it looks to me the scratch is pretty deep. I would call the dealership and ask them to give you the name of the bodyshop they use. Go to the bodyshop and ask the people there. I was lucky that I bumped into a very honest guy. The guy had helped me with 3 different scratches. He told me all the alternatives besides repainting the whole part. It's been awhile and I forgot what the alternatives were. I would check 2 different bodyshops.

Only if you don't know what you are doing.

As mentioned, touch up with a color coat, wet sand with 1500 sandpaper to clean off the edges. Apply several coats of clear over the color - wet sanding with 1500 after each coat until area is flush/"even" with the surrounding paint etc.. Buff either by hand or buffer with light compound (3M finesse creme/polish works best).

If the touch up color matches well it will look good. Yes, you may see it but it will not have a gouge or indentation etc.. Not that hard if you're patient.

I wouldn't doubt if some bodyshops would not want to or would advise you not to paint as well. Trust me, paint doesn't always just match. Many times a blend into the next panel is required and its that blend that will give you issues down the road.

As mentioned, it wont do any harm what so ever to try it before dropping several hundred $$ to paint etc.. If you do decide to paint, pick a good bodyshop that handles luxury cars - you will get what you pay for.

Good luck

you can use touch up paint, as long as primer is applied before. Refernece this thread for complete instructions on how to fix it.

shouldn't be too bad to touch it up, wetsand, then polish. looking carefully at the scratch it seems like there is a chip/bubble forming above it. if that is indeed a raised chip portion, you would want to get that removed and repaired as well...

silver color! might be a problem to remove the scratch... but worth trying. As paradigm said, Use touch up paint, wetsand it with (#1000) -be nice, and then just polish it. would look much better. Paradigm +rep
