Just noticed a 1" length tear in the passenger's gray leather bottom seat. The tear goes along several of the perforation holes. I gave my dad a ride last weekend and think he may have had his sunglasses case in his back pocket causing the tear?
It is a fairly clean tear but hurts nonetheless as my 245k high milage car is super clean. A torn seat makes it seem a step closer to a junker.
What are my options for fixing this? Is there an iron on patch to close it up and prevent further tearing or do I need to replace the whole bottom cover? Thanks
Either ignore it, put some packaging tape on it () or you'll have to replace the whole bottom cover. Get quotes from leather upholstery guys. or maybe go to junkyard to find a whole seat
Leather replacement is definitely the best way, but also most expensive. I had my local upholstery shop replace my passenger seat bottom for $250. looks like new, and will definitely do the same on my drivers side if it ever tears *knock on wood*
Seat covers at $29 I got from Groupon was an inexpensive option for my daughter's '06. This being her first car at 17yo, she is very happy with the result. It would have been over $1500 to replace all the ripped seats.
