Here’s my $.02, maybe more like $.25.
Some great points here that are worth highlighting:
-Biggest performance upgrade you can make is better tires. Wider wheels and lower profile tires are icing on the cake – a smaller incremental gain than just adding good tires.
-Putting new springs on your car will give you a sportier ride and improve many handling characteristics. The car will look better (to many) and likely be more fun to drive.
-You won’t get as much drop with A-Spec, so if lowering is your biggest priority you’re going to be let down (sorry for the pun).
Some things I think shocks/springs do for the car as opposed to just springs:
-Weight Transfer: More improvement of weight transfer characteristics leading to improved braking and traction. Anything you can do to improve traction on this car pays big dividends since losing front traction leads to loopy steering wheel feedback. Again, good tires do more than anything else – this is icing.
-Understeer: Spring rates specifically targeted at reducing understeer. You have to push the car to realize this benefit, especially compared to a car with good tires. I felt it in the first hard turn, some will never push hard enough to notice.
-Dampening: More rapid ‘settling’ of the suspension in response to bumps, humps, and dips. This is noticeable and can be enjoyed in everyday driving.
Do you drive in a manner where these thing currently bother you? Being honest about what you want could save you about $400. The stock TL suspension is a compromise designed to make most people happy. If you are going to change it, you have to decide what you want. Many people will be very happy with just tires and springs. A TL with good tires and CT springs will look good, be fun to drive, and handle well. Some people may be happier with stock springs and different damping. A-Spec will be just right for others.
As far as installation costs, the A-spec kit offers a simplified installation. The shocks/springs come preassembled so you don’t have to deal with compressing/removing/compressing/installing. Not a big deal if you a paying someone to do it, but it is a big deal if you are going to do it yourself. I hate working with spring compressors and I have a lot of experience with them – still hate them.
The $500 that many dealers quote is ridiculous. I installed my own suspension and it took 4 hours – without a lift and I hadn’t done it before (on a TL). Most of the work involves removing and reinstalling 'interference' - like shrouding, strut bars, and the back seat (sucks). When you take your car to a dealer you are paying more per hour but should also benefit from their experience. In other words, they should have the knowledge and experience to be able to do the job in less than 4 hours and should charge appropriately.

do you also think that with your stock 17's and 45 series tires that you are going to notice anything. Much of the suspension for the ASPEC is in combination with the 18s and 40 series tire. NEXT, youre gonna tell me that doesn't matter.
installing springs aren't just for asthetics... my car will look better than yours and will take the turn better than yours. think about it... if lowering your car to get more stability for better handling wasn't important why would they even lower the car 1/2" for the ASPEC... better yet, why is it that all sports cars/sedans have more aggressive suspension resulting in a lower center of gravity resulting in a lower more aggressive look.
You are in the minority, bitch... being one of a few people in this thread doesn't mean majority, where btw is just a bunch of people trying to justify why they spent $6000 and how they were jipped b/c their cars didn't lower the 1" they thought it would.
You don't even know whats available for your car to know the difference. Dude, honestly get the ASPEC suspension...
I don't want you getting the same shit I have...
If you have a nice looking car, then you care about asthetics... I think you should get a BUICK, b/c you're not a teenager and most of us who like nice looking cars are teenagers.
GET A FUCKING CLUE>>> ITS A 1" DROP

You have completely misunderstood what I was saying. Apparently you have a problem with your temper if you get bent so easy. Lighten up!! Most of your babbling is completely unrelated to what I said. Read it again. Here are some examples.
I never said YOU only care about asthetics....I made a generalized statment about THOSE that only care about asthetics. Sorry, but it's not all about you, man.
I don't have stock 17" wheels or 45 series tires nor did I make a statement about them.
I do know what's available for my car. I'd prefer the A-Spec suspension over your Comptechs and no shocks any day. Deal with it.
I don't condone the $4000-$6000 A-Spec package from the dealership. I have explained why many times in other threads. Do a search if you care.
There are many other comments/arguments you made that have nothing to do with what I said but I'm not gonna hunt them all down. Stay on topic would ya?
You are the one that sounds like an idiot to me. Maybe you aren't. It's hard to tell. I disagree with you over the original comment you made remember? Get over it. Every thread I see that has posts from you are arguments, not discussions. Boooooring. Your irrate ramblings are entertaining at times though. Keep those coming. And, in case you didn't notice due to your rage directed at me, but the finger I gave you also included a smile. Settle down already. Go to an anger management class or something.
