08? Nissan Altima Coupe 2.5S vs. 04 TL 5AT

Some asian guy swerving around on college st. (5 lane) going towards the highway. Lined up around 40? and took off. Pulled on him, shifted to fourth and to my surprise, i couldn't go past 125, because i usually hit 140 easily. Turns out i forgot to turn off my a/c. Beat him, then went on this highway going towards port arthur. After the long curve, lined up around....75 or 80 mph. Now with the A/C off, 3 beeps, and i took off. Easily pulled on him and now I can go past 125 easily. Cool guy, nice race.

Btw, I had two passengers with me.

cliffs: 2 extra passengers in TL, 1st race, forgot to turn off a/c, still one but couldn't do much in 4th gear

2nd race - turned off a/c, 3 beeps, pulled good.

I know I know, it's dangerous...but open straight roads...it was calling me....

Btw, I just read the dumbest comment on myspace.

"Dumbass, 6th gear is only for cruising, 5th gear is where the top speed is at" :troutslap

Now 4cyl. Altima drivers are trying to run the TL? Kind of an insult really.

Crap, that's what you get for posting while you're tired. Haha. Yea...next, time I'll fight the temptation...especially with passengers.

I don't know much about the tl top speed 6th gear vs 5th but I will tell you that many cars that have 6 speeds max out top end in 5th. These kind of threads are killing me.

Killing me... I have to read about a 16 year old that is street racing with 2 others in the car at speeds up to 140!! I go to the track a lot and that is where racing should be done. The amount of street racing discussed on acurazine.com is starting to drive me away. I have learned some good info on this site but the constant street talk is ridiculous. Forums like this should be closed and removed. I am finding greater respect for the forums I read for my other car where this kind of talk doesn't happen.

This is actually the only section where people share their street encounters. I think its too easy to avoid it. Why do you keep reading and coming back to it? Just a thought

I kinda figured someone is going to try to flame me about how young I am and illegal street racing. I mean, of course street racing is wrong and I know i should of took it to the track.. Yes I'm wrong for going fast on a 5 lane street deserted or not.

But you can't help it when some dude is ticking you off and on your ass while you're just cruising. I'm pretty sure you have raced illegal at least once.

Thanks Juruki, Jaber, and anx for having my back

I'm not having your back bro, you shouldn't be street racing until you've matured enough to handle the car at those speeds. Learn how to drive first

sorry I guess I should no the tl is no race car and is only good on the street against a 4 cylinder nissan and other slow ass cars. I come in here cuz I track my other car and am use to the racing forums to be just that. Not some street racing stupid stories. They should renew this area of the forum to illegal street racing and bragging about slow ass tl's. Give me a break.

You are right, the TL is no race car as the car itself is a slow ass car that's only capable of 14's in the 1/4 mile stock and is only two seconds faster on a proper race track against its main competitors. It's definitely slow as on a different version of that track it is a whooping 7 seconds slower than the GTR, 5 seconds slower than R8, 3 seconds slower than Evo X, Elise SC, and 911 Carrera, and 2 seconds slower than WRX STi.

Sorry bro to rub you wrong I got grumpy. Please don't compare the tl to the cars you listed. It deserves to be compared to the likes of a g35, is350, 335i, and the c350. Problem is all but the c350 will pull on a tl. And the is350 and 335i will flat out spank it in a straight line. Now I did read about the is350 and g35 eating crow at the streets by the tl-s. That shows you that the tl-s does deserve to be compared to those cars. Where the tl-s wins is in value. The 335i, is350 and c350 with equal equipment will cost atleast 7k more or nearly 20% increase.

My frustration comes from a 16 year old kid in a tl with buddies doing 140 on a wide street. And then comparing it to a 175hp Nissan. Wow. Side note what track was the tl only 3 seconds slower then a X, Elise, and a 911.

I enjoy my tl-s it is a nice car and relatively quick and as my daily driver it has been wonderful. Sorry if I came off hostile. To many lifes have been taking by racing like this. We don't need to encourage it. I think the forum should have a section for motorsports and such and then a cellular or underground area for these kind of stories.

Exclamation

The TL is no race car, or fast car in general for that matter, nor is it 2 seconds faster than it's competitors.

Comparing a TL to an Evo/STi is comparing apples to oranges.

TL will give you more comfort for cruising and other luxuries such as heated seats, etc etc.

The Evo and Sti would rip the TL a new one on the track.

This was during the night as I was going home from World Gym. Exactly, going off I-10 exiting onto 69. You're a TL'er also?

I think you forgot to mention the Audi A4 3.2 and CTS with DI which the TL-S is faster in a straight line. I agree, value has always been part of the TL equation.

Yea, I think anyone doing that kind of speed on a street/hwy is dangerous.

It was Streets of Willows, you can find the lap times for those cars here:
http://jdmoption.wordpress.com/2008/...ubaru-wrx-sti/

Here is the video of the TL-S getting 1:32 on that same track:
