'08 and '06 start diffrently???

So i noticed today driving the 08 auto that if i turn the key just enough to engage the starter and instantly let go of the key the car would keep turning over and start like normal. BUT if i do the same thing in 06 manual it wont finish starting.

kinda hard to explain unless you actually see it in action. I can have both hands on the steering wheel by the time the 08 starts

just something odd i noticed...

Yup, the '07-08 auto TL has the engine assist (not sure of the correct term for it) where the engine cranks automatically. It sucks the 6MT doesn't have this feature.

EDIT: I believe the correct term from Acura is One Touch Start for the 5AT TL/TL-S.

turn the key once on the 06+ model and engine cranks until start or a predetermined amount of time passed.

Mine doesn't do that. It's 07-08 and their starters are quieter as well.

yep 07-08 has one touch starting engine feature, you just have to turn the key once and let go the engine will start automatic versus older model you have to hold the key until the car started.

Interesting that 04-06 didn't have this. I actually didn't notice this feature for a few months of having the car. I accidentally let off early while starting and was like wtf? I actually shut off the car and started it again because I was so surprised.

If I didn't have one-touch start, I'm sure I'd think the same thing.

Also known as "Tip-Start" as you just tip the key and the car starts.

I use this feature 100% of the time, it gives me extra time to buckle my seat belt... very annoying to drive a car without it now.

I love how all of the 04 - 06 tl owners are haters. I own a type s and I love the feature. I do also use it every time and hate getting in cars now where you need to hold it to start.

Haters? No one is "hating" in here. Everyone has their own opinions whether they think its a useful or useless feature.

It sounds stupid if you think about it as just turning the key for you but the truth is that the system is incorporating tach-sensing so that it's not cranked for longer than it needs to be extending the life of your starter and/or flywheel.

I'm all for it if my car had it. But the fact that mine doesn't really doesn't matter. My wife's Equinox has this feature and really don't pay much attention to it when I drive her car. The amount of time it takes me to turn the key and get the engine started is roughly the same on either car. The fact that I have to push in a clutch pedal to start is much more of an annoyance than the fancy auto-start.....although I will never give up my clutch pedal!!!

Every single one of us is a hater, huh? Stereotype much?

By the way, someone expressing a legitimate opinion that just happens to be different than yours does not make them a hater.

As for the one touch start feature, I know a lot of the domestic brand cars have had this since the late 90s-early 2000s. I guess the feature has its merits, but to me it just seems like yet another laziness feature first popularized by American cars.

damn. another reason to be jealous of 07-08

THen again, if you get remote start like I did, you never have to worry about turning the key until is starts. just put the key in and go

I guess it all depends on your point of view. I tested several cars with push button starters, parking brakes(VW), shifters(paddles) and clutches that were either in or out because they had no progressive takeup(also VW).
I ended up with an 07 TL-S NBP 6MT and I love the fact that I have to turn a key and hold it to start it. I don't like those stinking push buttons. I thought it one-touch started once when I let the key off after about a tenth of a second and it started anyway, but then I did not know about this feature. I concluded that the engine was able to fire up with little effort. Now I'll have to see if it was the car or me.

I personally dont mind it, I use it all the time when I get loaners. What parts are incorporated with the smart start system? Is it possible to retro fit it in our 04 - 06 TLs?
