0704? 0804? Does anyone know for sure?

There are tons of comments running through the threads about which week of production was the first with the "reformulated" EL-42s.

Some say 0704.

Others say 0804.

I have no clue.

Does anyone know for sure? Thanks.

(My tires say 0704. My car was built in the first week of March, VIN 34XXX, many weeks after Acura apparently first announced the "reformulated" tires. I'm wondering if mine are, in fact, the new ones. I have detected no flatspotting, and it was pretty cold last week where I live.)

You can tell for sure by the manufacturer's code.
Old EL42- OB6N (I think this is mfg code) PVC
New EL42- OB6N TU2

Also, there is another code which is different, but I don't know what the code means
Old DU9581
New DW3151

Thanks for the confirmation. Does anybody have 0604, or even 0504? I think 0704 was the first of the new breed, but would like confirmation from someone with 0604 so we will all know for sure.

I have 0604 and mine have the vibration problem. Of course I had to miss it by one week, bad luck on my part.

Please post the codes on the side of your tire -- whether they're OB6N PVC or OB6N TU2.

I second that. I guess he is saying he missed it by a week because he has the old codes, but I would like to see it in print so we can definitely say that 0704 is the start of the new tires.

I purchased mine 9 days ago, the tires read 0604 OB6N TU2. No Flat spot vibrations noticed.

So now we are back as far as 0604 for the new tires. I think that is as far as we will get, but who knows with these crappy Bridgestones's?

So for those of you who purchased a TL with 0704's - do you have problems with vibrations or flat-spotting?

I've read several posts from people that had the original EL42's replaced and don't see much improvement. But I'd like to hear opinions from people who have only had the new version. Are you happy with the tires?

Thanks, BelTelMel, Also, Ron A, you provide the way to figure this out.

So, does 0504 have 0B6N TU2 or PVC?

BTW, it seems that TU2 new tires would not guarranty vibration-free... [/B]

I checked and I also have the new codes with the 0704's. So it seems we're pretty sure the 0704's and everything later are new. We're not as sure about all the 0604's, but evidently at least some of them (and maybe all of them) are new also.

Now we're waiting to hear from people with 0504's, right?

Maybe they skipped 0504 and went from 0404 (old tire) directly to 0604 (new tire).

Car received second week of February.

Tires: 0304 PVC

No flatspotting yet. The one time I thought I had flatspotting, I saw a day later that the pavement was "wavy" in that area.

I'll check this evening. I should mention that I've only experienced the flat spotting when the temps have dipped below 40F during the night. The vibrations only last a few minutes at 50-60mph during the first drive of the day.

I have the new versions (0704) and I have been really, really sensitive about the flatspotting issue. I only got to drive my car for 5 days before leaving on a week long trip (no- not by car <g>).... I got no vibrations during that time and it snowed each day -- the sort of weather that seems to bring about flat spotting. I was really worried that the week long sit in the cold would flat spot them if anything would. I came back on Sunday (with much trepidation) and the tires were fine. I guess that I can relax a bit because I don't think I'm going to experience the problem <g>!

Regards,
<TED>

Question

Anyone has EL42 0504? Are they with TU2 or PVC?

Thanks a lot.

I have 0804 tires which were installed last Friday.

didn't make much of a difference except that they're worse above 70MPH (constant vibration).

My 0804's were installed last Tuesday, still same first 4-5 miles problem and then still little vibration, but no vibration at 70mph.

Acura District Service Manager came to my house this morning and I drove the car out for about 2 miles, then he drove it back. As usual, the vibration got less as the tires warmed up, but there was still some vibration. Then I drove his TL, early production with 0204 EL42’s on it, and it was as smooth as glass. I know they were warmed up so no flatspotting, but the regular driving on roads I am used to was really smooth.

He said it felt more like a balancing problem. When we got back to the house he checked the tires, and one didn’t have any weights on it at all, which doesn’t seem right. He is going back to dealer and check their balancing machine (and I guess the guy that does the balancing also), and said he would even pay to get mine done on a Hunter Force balancer if there is one in this area.

Hope this works. Will keep you posted.

Is it unusual NOT to have the vibration problem? Got the car Feb 3.

Had my WDP/Parchment/5AT/Navi for two days and I love it. VIN39XXX.
Today coming home from work on the freeway I did notice a "rumble" and slight
vibration to the car. This lasted about 2-3 miles then lessened somewhat.
I believe the road surface was pretty consistant, smooth. The sensation also
felt like the car wanted to slow down, or there was some impedance in the drivetrain.
I guess a way to describe it as the car didn't want to "coast" well. This was at speeds between 40-70. Very subtle feeling. I could be nuts also. The car has 50 miles on it.
Is this what everyone is reffering to?

Has it been determined that the problem we all seem to have is solely the tires? I am starting to think its engine-harmonic or drivetrain-related, but I am certainly no expert.

If your VIN/car built was built btwn the end of Feb and the beginning of March, your EL42s prossibly should be around 0404, 0504, or 0604.

Are you sure it's 4904 PVC? Sounds like this is the car built in Nov. and it never left the lots until the moment it was sold to you.

The PVC is the manufacturers code for the EL42 produced before 0504; the code after 0504 isTU2.

If you have PVC, you have the old tires, and the date code might be 4903, which is the 49th week of 2003. Are you sure it is 4904 and not 4903 or 0404?

What are the last 5 digits of your VIN. Probably around 25XXX but let us know.

I think any VIN early than 31030 is eligible for the check up if you have time.

I think you have described well ONE of the vibrations people are talking about. This is the most subtle one, and the one that is most likely not related to the tires. At least, Acura says it isn't, and many people who've replaced their tires still have it. Acura says it's related to exhaust resonance, whatever that means. It is annoying for some, no big deal to others, and then there are those who don't have it at all, or at least don't perceive having it. Pretty much everyone agrees that ideally it shouldn't be there, but Acura does not seem to have a fix or response for that.

Exhaust related?! I guess it's possible; but at this point I don't care - I just want this problem fixed. As long as Acura acknowledges responsibility (sooner rather than later)for this, and not try convince everybody it's just "normal"; otherwise would entertain bringing a class action suit. I still think it is engine-harmonic/drive train-related (torque converter?), but again, I am not an expert (but no dummy either). I bought the TL after driving a demo, and it must have been the adrenalin, because I don't remember the demo vibrating...
